To help you quickly find the ideal hair color for your type, we have developed a simple formula:Skin tone + undertone + eye color = seasonal type
Step 3: Which Season Type Are You?
In order to find out which hair color suits you best, you should also determine your seasonal color type. The four main types are spring, summer, autumn and winter.
Hair color for spring type
Light or light brown skin + warm undertone + light eyes (blue, brown or green with gold flecks) = spring type
The skin is fair and clear, with a golden yellow or peach tone. Many spring types blush easily and tend to have freckles. The eyes are bright, ranging from light blue to green, with gold flecks. The natural hair color is usually blonde. However, some spring types may have dark or red hair.
And: Medium brown, golden or reddish hair colors are a good idea to enhance the natural golden shine of the hair. Golden brown, copper and caramel brown also work well.
No: You should avoid platinum blonde, ash gray or dark colors.
Hair color for summer type
Light or light brown skin + cool undertone + light eyes (with blue-green or gray flecks) = summer type
The summer type has light, rosy skin with a bluish to purple undertone. The eyes are blue, bluish green, gray-blue or green. Some summer types also have brown eyes with blue, gray or green flecks. The natural hair color of summer types is blonde or brunette.
And: Platinum blonde, light brown and ashy hair colors are the right colors for you. Silver or platinum blonde highlights can also liven up your hair beautifully. Cool blonde tones are great for girls with porcelain skin and a rosy undertone, as these cool tones neutralize redness. Red colors with a bluish tone such as burgundy and aubergine are also ideal for summer types.Pastel hair like purple and pinkalso works great on light skin types.
No: Avoid red hair colors with mahogany, copper or golden blonde tones as these will make you look older.
Hair color for autumn type
Light or medium skin + warm undertone + blue, green, honey or brown eyes (black or dark brown) = autumn type
The skin color is either light or has a deep bronze tone. In any case, the skin has a yellowish-golden undertone. Autumn-type skin often has freckles. This skin type is not that common, although it occurs in people of African, Asian or southern European descent. The eye color shines in all shades of green, blue and brown. The natural hair color is dark brown with a reddish tint or red with copper to mahogany nuances.
Yes: emphasize your natural hair color with warm red and copper tones. All warm brown tones such as golden brown, copper gold or chestnut brown are also flattering. If you really want to dye your hair blonde, you should go for golden blonde tones.
No: Ash blonde hair colors do not suit the autumn type. A clever alternative are golden blonde or copper red highlights. However, blonde highlights are not a good idea because they look artificial.
Hair color for winter type
Dark, medium or light skin + cool undertone + very dark (black, brown or gray) or very light (blue or deep green) eyes = winter type
Winter-type skin can be very light, even pale, with a cool bluish undertone. The winter type is particularly common. This group also includes many people of African, Asian and southern European descent. The dark brown, gray, ice blue or intense green eye color contrasts with the white of the eyes. The natural hair color is black to bluish black or dark to medium brown.
Yes: dark hair colors such as black, blue-black, ash brown and mocha brown. Winter women can liven up their natural hair color with purple or mahogany highlights.
No: Yellowish-gold hair colors make winter-type skin look yellowish. Since lightening dark hair often results in unpleasant red tones, it's best to avoid blonde highlights.
