No matter whether you are 20 or 60 years old – a beautiful and clean manicure is a must for a well-groomed look. With the large selection of shapes, colors and designs, you can quickly lose track and mature women in particular will probably ask themselves the question: Which shape is right for me? Although this is partly a matter of taste, there are several reasons why short, oval nails are one of the best nail shapes for women over 50. We present the advantages and give a few ideas for nail designs and colors that have an anti-aging effect on the hands.

Even if we don't want to admit it, certain trends don't look good after a certain age and should be relegated to the “don't wear anymore” column. When it comes to our nails, this means, among other things, nail shapes that are too long and pointy. Imagine an over 50 woman holding her grandchild's hand with her long stiletto nails with lavish decorations. Rather unpleasant, don't you think? We all want to look younger, but the wrong styling can do just thatdo the opposite.
Classic nail shapes, however, such as round and oval, are particularly flattering for aging hands. These shapes are more feminine and elegant than a really strong square or pointed shape, meaning they don't draw attention directly to your hands.
We asked our nail artists about the best nail shape for mature hands, and their answers were clear - older women look best on oval nails. Of course, it also depends on the shape and size of the nail bed, but generally rounded nails have a rejuvenating effect.
Short or long nails?

The length of the nails is not only a matter of taste, but also depends on how healthy and strong they are. Older women often complain of soft andbrittle nails, which can actually only be worn for a short time. But even if your fingernails are healthy, it is not advisable to keep them too long, as long claws look unflattering as you get older. Short nails also have the advantage that they are comfortable and do not interfere with your daily tasks.
Additional tip:To maintain healthy nails and younger-looking hands, daily use of nail and cuticle care is crucial. Also, remember to protect your skin from pigmentation and fine lines with an SPF.
Which colors are suitable for short, oval nails?

Okay, of course you can experiment with colors and wear what you like. However, women over 50 simply cannot go wrong with classic, neutral nail polish colors. Furthermore, light shades make short nails appear longer and show them off to their best advantage. If you like it more colorful, you can try classic shades such as baby pink, peach, taupe and lilac. Make sure the paint has good coverage and a good finish.

When it comes to choosing the best shades for this season, go for neutrals or pastels. Neutral nail polish colors suit a less saturated skin tone better than a contrasting shade like bright pink. For younger-looking hands, opt for creamy, richly pigmented shades that have more depth.

As always, the most popular, timeless classic remains the red manicure, which goes perfectly with the oval nail shape and immediately makes older hands look younger. Shiny red looks very classy and elegant and is always a good choice for mature ladies. For a more understated manicure, you can apply a matte top coat instead of a glossy one.
