I don't know about you, but in my personal ranking, the sandal is my favorite shoe. There's nothing better than walking around town with your bare toes on a warm summer evening. However, it's not always easy to find the right pair that meets my criteria for comfort and aesthetics. That's why I prefer to maintain the existing shoes instead of buying new ones every summer. It is also the more sustainable choice. So in this article I will share with you some tricks that I use to clean sandal footbeds so they look like new!

Footbeds are often overlooked when caring for sandals, but aside from looking unaesthetic, wasted, dirty footbeds play a very important role in keeping your feet healthy and bacteria-free. However, if you follow the simple methods in this article, you can successfully clean sandal footbeds and extend their lifespan.
You get great results with dish soap and warm water:Add liquid soap to warm water until you get a soapy solution. Then dip a soft cloth into the solution, squeeze out the excess, and clean the footbed of the sandals. When you're finished, take another clean cloth or sponge and use it to remove any remaining soap solution.
- Tipp: If your footbeds are particularly dirty and the material of your sandals allows it, soak them in warm, soapy water for about two hours. Then clean them as described above and rinse them with cold water. Dry them well and let the shoes dry.
Sandpaper for suede footbeds:This technique is particularly suitable for use with a suede footbed. Simply rub the dirty footbed with sandpaper, making sure to reach all dirty corners. Rub gently but firmly and repeat the movements until you have removed the dirt and stains. Once you have successfully removed most of the visible dirt, you can clean sandal footbed by using a soft cloth.
Important!Avoid using water to clean leather and suede insoles - they are very delicate and can be easily damaged if they come into contact with water. So if you have to treat them with water, try to keep it to a minimum.

Tips on how to properly care for leather footbeds
Proper care of your leather sandals is important to ensure they look great and last a long time. However, to maintain them, it is important to nourish them regularly with a quality leather conditioner. Here's how to do it right.
First, clean the sandals with a soft cloth to remove any stuck-on dirt, paying particular attention to the footbeds.
Once the surface is clean, apply a coat of leather conditioner to the sandals. Pay particular attention to areas with cracks or scratches. Polish the shoe in circular movements with a soft cloth and allow the care product to absorb into the leather overnight. The next day, wipe off any residue. By following these simple steps, your leather sandals will stay looking new for years to come.
- Tipp: Store your leather sandals in a cool, dry place. Avoid exposing them to direct sunlight for long periods of time as this can cause the leather to fade and deteriorate over time.

More simple tricks on how to keep sandal footbed clean
Stuff the sandals with newspaper: When you take off your sandals, fill them with crumpled sheets of newspaper. The newspaper effectively absorbs odor and moisture from the footbed. Replace paper as needed.
Shoes rotate: No matter how much you love a particular pair of sandals, avoid wearing them all the time as this will only contribute to dirt and grime settling on the footbed. Change your shoes as often as possible to keep the footbed clean for longer.
Always allow your shoes to air dry: No matter which method you choose for cleaning footbeds, always allow them to air dry, away from direct sunlight. The sun dries out the material and can even lead to cracks.
Make sure your feet are always clean: Dead skin and foot sweat easily become trapped in the sandal footbed. This contributes to dirt buildup and odor. To prevent this, take the time to clean and scrub your feet with a pumice stone or an exfoliating product to get rid of the dead skin.
