Sandals uncomfortable? With these methods you will solve the problem!

Are your new sandals uncomfortable, even if they didn't look that way in the store? Don't worry, this is completely normal! It takes a while for your foot to get used to the new shoe and feel comfortable in it. However, you can find out what you can do to speed up this process in this article!

Sandals uncomfortable – tips on how to improve them

Here are some tips and tricks that are sure to help you feel comfortable in your new sandals!

Use saddle soap or candle wax for leather sandals

Rub the soap into the areas where the sandals rub against your heels and toes and cause you pain. This stretches the leather and reduces friction between the shoe and your foot. We recommend that you use saddle soap. It will give you the best results. Rub it in the evening, leave it on and wipe it off with a damp cloth in the morning. Repeat if necessary.

Another alternative to saddle soap is to use candle wax, which is rubbed into the problem areas of the leather.

  • Notice: Remember that these methods are only suitable for leather sandals.

Sandals uncomfortable – Step into a bucket of water with these on

This method is also only suitable for leather sandals. Definitely do not use them if your sandals are Birkenstocks or have a cork sole.

Fill a bucket with lukewarm to warm water. Put on the sandals that are uncomfortable for you and step into them. Wait a few seconds until your leather sandals are nice and wet, get out of the bucket and dry your feet and shoes. Then walk around a bit. The water and moisture soften the leather and it conforms to your feet as you walk.

  • Notice: If you don't want to step into a bucket of water, you can use a spray bottle and spray the sandals.

Ensure your comfort with sandal insoles & heel holders

If you find that the lack of arch support or cushioning makes it difficult to walk comfortably, purchase special insoles or arch pads to cushion the inside of the sandal. Choose ones for flat sandals or hard shoes that ideally also absorb moisture.

If you find that your sandals are uncomfortable because they are a little too big, you can add a heel holder to the back of the shoes. It prevents slipping and compensates for the extra space. Heel holders are available in different materials such as sponge, suede and rubber.

Waterproof your summer shoes with beeswax

This method is only suitable if your sandals are made of fabric.

Waterproofing your shoes can help prevent water from entering the shoes, which can cause chafing and blisters. How do you do that? Simply buy some beeswax and rub it on the outer material of your sandals.

Socks at home, plasters outside

Place a patch on the inside of your sandal where your feet rub. We recommend that you use thick patches as thin patches can fall off quickly throughout the day.

Another trick you can try is to stretch the sandals by wearing them with thick socks at home. This may not be the ideal option for summer, but it will speed up the process of loosening the shoe so you will soon have comfortable sandals to wear outside.

Sandals uncomfortable – precautionary tips you should consider

Buy new sandals in the second half of the day: Your feet are smallest when you wake up in the morning. They swell as the day goes on. It's best to try on new sandals in the late afternoon or evening to avoid buying shoes that will be uncomfortable.

Choose a good brand: Buy sandals manufactured by quality brands that have proven themselves in the market as specialists in producing comfortable shoes. Some sandals are better made than others, and you will certainly feel more comfortable in them than those from lower quality brands. And even though they are more expensive, consider this purchase as an investment - firstly in the health of your feet and secondly in your wallet. Expensive but quality sandals will cost you much less than cheap but poor quality ones because you will wear them without any problems for at least 2-3 years. Sandals made of poor quality material will only last until the end of summer at most and will cause your feet a lot of pain.

  • Notice: If you are unfamiliar with the shoe market, look for recommendations and reviews online and ask the sales staff at the shoe store.

Avoid wearing a brand new pair of sandals on a long walk: Wear your sandals for a short time at first until your feet get used to them. Otherwise, you risk not only sores and blisters, but also pain in your leg muscles and feet.
