Autumn is here and soon it will be boot time again! We'll help you with tips on how to clean and properly care for your favorite pair of Ugg boots during the cold season.
Uggs have been controversial since they hit the market in the early 2000s. Should you wear them with socks? Should you wear them with shorts and a crop top in summer? Or they shouldreserved only for winterbe? Do they function like slippers or are they intended for outdoor use? However, there is one thing we can all agree on: Uggs are simply comfortable. These lined boots are uncomplicated, ultra-warm and simply cozy.
However, it can be easy to wear them all the time and forget that they need to be cleaned. However, because they are made from lambskin, suede, or a combination of both, Uggs are susceptible to water, mud, salt, and grease stains, meaning regular cleaning is essential. In fact, the materials are so delicate that even storing your favorite pair in high temperatures while wet can cause shrinkage.
The easiest way to protect your boots from the elements when you don't have the time to clean them after each wear is to use the brand's special cleaner, which comes in a convenient care kit. However, if you've waited a bit too long to care for your boots or are out of protectant, check out some alternative tips on how to clean Uggs below.
How often should you clean Ugg boots?
Ugg boots should be cleaned after each wear, or at least brushed if it is wet or snowy outside. In dry weather, cleaning the upper material once a week is sufficient (if you don't wear the boots every day, less often). To avoid bad smells inside your Uggs, clean them after every third wear, or even more often if you wear them in wet weather.
This is how water stains can be removed
If you've been caught in the rain and your suede boots get wet, you might think that you can simply soak them in water to clean them. But that is an absolute no-go. Here is an easy way to get rid of water stains.
What you need:
- Suede brush with nylon bristles
- Suede cleaner, alternatively 1:1 mixture of vinegar and water
- Paper towel
- soft sponge
- Baumwolltuch
- Water
Directions:
- Prepare your boots - use the suede brush to give the outside a thorough cleaning. This will loosen the pile and remove any surface dirt.
- Use a sponge to dampen the boot. Dip the sponge in clean, cool water and wet the entire boot. Be careful not to soak the shoe with too much water, just enough to make it slightly damp.
- Clean your boots with the sponge and suede cleaner. As an alternative home remedy, a 1:1 mixture of water and white vinegar works well.
- Dip the cotton cloth in clean water and run it over the boot to remove the suede cleaner.
- Stuff the inside with paper towels so that the boots hold their shape and stand up straight when dry.
- Allow the boots to air dry. Under no circumstances should you put your Uggs in the dryer or use a hairdryer as this can ruin the shoes for good. Instead, find a place to dry your boots at room temperature, away from the sun or other sources of direct heat.
Clean the inside of Ugg boots
Whether you wear your shoes with or without socks, the inside can become sticky from sweat and quickly develop bacteria. Avoid smelly feet or trips to the podiatrist by giving the inside of your boots the same attention as the outside. Here's a quick and easy way to keep the inside of your boots fresh and clean.
What you need:
- baking powder
- Cornstarch
- Cold water
- Washcloth
- Gentle liquid soap
- Soft toothbrush
And this is how it works:
- Remove odors. If theThe insides of your shoes stink, add two teaspoons of baking soda and two teaspoons of cornstarch to each boot. Give it a little shake and let it sit for a few hours. Pour out the baking soda and cornstarch before you start cleaning.
- Dampen washcloth in water and add soap.Instead of making a solution of soap and water, wet the rag first and then apply the soap to it. This way you apply the soap directly to the stain.
- Gently scrub the sheepskin.Only apply pressure when necessary. For moderate stains, gentle scrubbing is sufficient. However, if you have stubborn stains on your hands, you may need to be a little tougher.
- Use a toothbrush if necessary. If you're struggling with a particularly stubborn stain, consider using a soft toothbrush.
- Wipe clean.First, rinse your washcloth thoroughly and wring it out. If necessary, moisten it before removing the soap from inside the boot.
- Allow the shoes to air dry.As always, it's best to let your Uggs air dry to preserve their coziness.
