A carpet forms the design center of the room and is therefore visually in the foreground, even though it is placed low to the floor. A purely decorative carpet or runner definitely adds a cozy touch and ensures a visually warm look to the room design. This is complemented by retro and vintage accents. In keeping with the times, antique furniture and old things gain new meaning as they incorporate their history and give individuality in the modern home. Vintage carpets are already one of the big trends in furnishings and are conquering more and more contemporary homes.
The carpets are designed in such a way that they only look old, used and worn out. However, they are newly manufactured and offer the user all the properties that characterize every high-quality modern carpet. Vintage style itself conveys, on the one hand, the impression of used objects and the feeling of durability. Items that have been in use for a long time and have survived this reflect traditional processing and quality. At the same time, these are characterized by a timeless design and ensure that they are not a short-term trend.
Patchwork design basically assumes elaborate handwork and therefore looks attractive and authentic. Modern designs that have the characteristic patchwork pattern are less likely to be dominated by color intensity. The focus is on balanced nuances of the same color family, which blur into each other, as well as the typical structure. This is exactly what enlivens large rooms and purist furnishing silence. Colorful patchwork rugs can be used in children's areas, where more color is generally desired.
Classic patterns that we like from traditional English and French porcelainToile-de-Jouy or onion patterns, as well as exotic Persian and Oriental motifs, appear again and again in the new designs, of course not in their original look, but transformed. In keeping with the idea of vintage, well-known and popular ornaments come in subtle colors. The bright nuances are completely missing and are replaced by slightly sadder ones from the same color palette. The patterns do not appear as usual, but rather unfinished, not complete, partially dissolved.
Some versions that appear more abstract tend to use certain colors that run into each other and are completely missing in places. This creates a different image that has no contours, but still appears as a whole. This model looks like real artistic paintings placed on the floor, the colors of which can be found in the rest of the room design.
Perhaps the most famous carpet designer today is Jan Khan. Through his concepts, he opens up a completely new view of the carpet as an inseparable part of modern people's homes. His designs fuse classic elements combined with typical oriental carpet design and contemporary, minimalist design. Different cultures are not only linked in terms of design, but also involved in the execution and production of the individual items.
The pattern for the future carpet is generated on the computer and can vary in size, knot density and material. Family-run manufacturers in Nepal, Morocco or Thailand are then commissioned for the project. The actual carpet is made by hand according to centuries-old tradition. The process for producing an item can take up to 4 months. This is how individual pieces are created.
Different high-quality materials are used for the different collections, such as Tibetan highland wool, the finest Chinese silk or yarn made from nettle fibers. The colors used are exclusively ecological and produced or tested in Switzerland. This creates various attractive light reflections as well as a very special look and feel. The manual manufacturing technique, the high-quality materials and, last but not least, the visually attractive design result in carpets with their own character and of the highest quality.
If you like things with history, then there are definitely some pieces of furniture in the mid-century style. Furniture in this interior style is not necessarily old and used. Some are considered design classics, others are characterized by their simple design language and materials such as molded wood or veneer. But nothing goes better with this than a carpet with pleasant colors.
The models embody several stylish elements in one. This can be about color, pattern or the dissolution of these. In some places the carpet loses its color and typical structure after a long period of use and due to heavy use. In this sense, this effect is pursued and recreated through a play of colors.
Patterns typical of different cultures work well together when they are color coordinated. Nevertheless, it would also make sense to emboss a related structure - for example different, but all floral motifs. The example photo illustrates how Toile de Jouy, onion and paisley patterns in the color combination white and blue harmonize wonderfully next to monochrome elements of the interior.
From a visual point of view, it looks particularly effective if a color is chosen that contrasts with the rest of the interior. However, it is precisely the contrast that attracts attention and also gives the entire room design an individual charisma. In a minimalist, puristic room it makes sense to lay a carpet or at least a carpet runner in an attractive shade. It would be advisable to opt for mixed tones that are more effective in a cool environment.
A variation are designs with blurred colors that are brightly colored in areas and intensely colored in others. The faded effect is only pursued from a visual point of view and it is basically not a home carpet, as ornaments and figures are missing, the focus is on the play of colors and the watercolor-blurred nuances.
