Arched wood paneling and floating staircase define this unique penthouse in Beirut, Lebanon

The “Wadi Penthouse” project is a renovation of a two-story penthouse for a family of four in Beirut, Lebanon. According to Platau architects, the most significant spatial change was the introduction of a double-height room in the center of the house. With this innovation, the individual areas such as living areas, work areas, storage rooms and bedrooms were reorganized. The original layout of this penthouse's spaces resulted in poor spatial interaction between both floors and featured a narrow main foyer. At first glance, you immediately notice the unique curved wooden paneling on the walls. The architects took advantage of the flexibility of wood and broke away from the usual, strict lines and proportions to create something creative and unique. The renovation of the unique Wadi Penthouse apartment was completed in 2016. The penthouse has a living space of 650 square meters.

The newly designed space next to the dining room, which acts as a mezzanine, is a real onearchitectural masterpiece. It's not just the attractive, curved wooden cladding that amazes you. The white, floating staircase is also immediately noticeable. The staircase was suspended from the ceiling using vertical steel profiles, which emphasizes its lightness and makes it appear as if the staircase is floating freely in the middle of the room. The metallic staircase structure in white creates a great contrast to the light wood. The wooden material also covers the walls of the adjacent room.

If you take a closer look at the walls, you will immediately notice that they deviate from their normal straight line and create a special dynamic in the living space. The arched wooden cladding with its organic curves looks almost surreal. The wooden element continues throughout the penthouse. The wooden wall paneling is decorated with beautiful details that give the apartment an elegant and stylish touch. The curvy wooden walls are not only a visual highlight, but also a practical,space-saving solution– they hide a lot of storage space.

The rest of the surfaces in the apartment are white – white wall paint, whiterMarble for the floorand as already mentioned, white steel for the stairwell. The remaining rooms, kitchen, bedroom and home theater also look stylish and contemporary. Each of the rooms in Wadi Penthouse is equipped with special lighting with a unique design. Above the mezzanine, which continues the curved wood paneling of the walls, is a small media room with additional storage.
