Modern minimalist architecture has great appeal - the simple yet elegant look of the buildings, as well as the contrasting material combinations, automatically attract attention. The exposed concrete is the focus here - the material is versatile and is particularly popular for its rough look. But admittedly - its gray color is more suitable for a city villa or a holiday home between the rocks in Scandinavia. A concrete house in South America located between green trees and blooming flowers looks less appealing. In this case, color pigments for concrete offer a solution - the material can be colored as desired and, together with wood, gives the facade an exotic touch. We present to you “Casa Terra” from the architects Bernardes Arquitetura – an excellent example of the possible uses of colored concrete.
Concrete color pigments completely transform the facade of a minimalist villa in Brazil
Concrete is a particularly popular material for minimalist house building with good reason - it can be easily transported even to areas that are difficult to access, can support metal structures, and the desired amount is poured and processed on site. But the all-round talent also has a disadvantage – its color. The problem can be solved with a colorant, as the next project clearly proves.
The clients gave the architects from Bernardes Arquitetura the brief of a cozy holiday home that opens up to the beautiful landscape. The architects opted for a conventional combination of materials - a generously glazed facade should seamlessly connect the inside and outside, the wooden roof should provide cooling shade for the outdoor lounge area and theConcrete walls the roomsshield from prying eyes. However, since the villa is located in a picturesque area and is surrounded by tall trees, exotic plants and mountains, the architects decided to color the exterior walls.
Color pigments for concrete are made from mineral colors and are supplied in powder form. This allows you to color both small and large amounts of material. The additional costs are limited - compared to expensive wooden cladding with complex transport, for example. In this case, the selected earth tone played a crucial role in the facade design. The attractive red-brown shade is similar to the native wood species in Brazil and makes the facade appear natural and inviting. At the same time, the color creates a visual connection between the individual building volumes.
Functional room layout – six building volumes offer enough living space for a large family
The single-family home scores not only with its attractive facade design, but also with its practical room distribution - 6 building volumes ensure the comfort of the family members and their guests. They accommodate the living areadirect connection to the terraceand the pool, the bedrooms with en suite bathrooms and a guest house that is currently used as a home office. A hallway connects the individual volumes with each other. They are positioned on the terrain in such a way that they cast shade on each other, keeping the interior pleasantly cool even in the hot summer months.
Numerous design options also in the living area
In the living area, the concrete wall with a wood look also forms the perfect background for the modern country house style furnishings. The wooden kitchen with an island offers plenty of storage space and is equipped with everything you need. A small herb garden on the countertop diffuses pleasant scents into the living area and keeps insects away. Floor-to-ceiling high sliding glass doors connect the kitchen with the adjoining outdoor dining area - where residents can end the evening with a meal. Also on the ground floor is the living room, where two three-seater sofas with leather armchairs and modern metal stools form a cozy seating area. The spacious coffee table has plenty of space for books, magazines and decorations. The furniture is spiced up with throw pillows with charming patterns. The architects specifically decided to use only natural materials - these create a homely ambience and have a pleasant feel.
There is also nothing missing in the outdoor area - from an outdoor dining area, to a comfortable lounge area on the terrace, to extremely comfortable sun loungers right next to the pool - the garden furniture promises relaxation and casual days with family and friends. The wooden roofinghas become the trademark of the flat roof house. It fulfills two functions - on the one hand it protects against the strong sun rays, on the other hand it offers privacy protection.
A modern flat roof in the middle of nature – this is how the “Casa Terra” project can be described. But upon closer inspection, the villa turns out to be a quiet beauty where tradition meets modernity. Behind the minimalist look of the facade lies a rustic interior in the earthy nuances traditional for Brazil. Rattan, wood, linen and leather are skilfully combined - the mix of materials is typical of South America. You can find more exciting pictures from the project in the photo gallery below.
