The open kitchen-living room with living room – functionality and minimalist style in one
The two-story townhouse is located in a densely populated residential area in Vicenza, Italy. The house is located ona narrow plot of land, the neighboring house is right next to it. The minimal distance to the other buildings presented the architects with the first major challenge - they had to face the house to the west in order to optimize the lighting conditions. Nevertheless, the design studio managed to accommodate an open kitchen-living room with living room, bathroom, toilet, bedroom and guest room on 230 square meters of living space. Even a garage for one car with a direct connection to the house could be built.
The house wasthe new homea woman with visual impairment - the customer had lived in a different building for more than 50 years and now needed new accommodation. She set the requirement for an open living concept where the individual rooms flow seamlessly into one another. Literally seamless – because the client deliberately chose not to use doors. This change has made her life much easier because she doesn't always have to open or close the door.
The architects really tried to optimize the homeowner's living comfort. For this purpose, the house was furnished according to the purist living concept. Less is more, says the minimalist furnishing principle - the inspiration and basis for the project of the talented interior designers. The open kitchen-living room was equipped with handle-free cupboards - just in keeping with the trend. The kitchen back wall was tiled - this created an easy-care surface. The built-in devices clear the way for free movement in the room. A kitchen island in the middle of the room gives her the opportunity to prepare delicious food for herself and her guests. In the kitchen landscapeIn fact, nothing is missing - but the accessories and cooking utensils are all organized in the cupboards. This means the homeowner can always keep track of things and quickly get plates, bowls, etc. as needed. find. Right next to the kitchen there is a dining area for six people. Designed according to the latest mix-and-match trend, in a puristic Scandinavian style: the solid wood table is combined with chairs with plastic seats. Chic and also easy to care for. So nothing stands in the way of pleasant cooking evenings with friends!
Wood and stone flooring
Right next to the dining area, the architects designed a reading corner with a three-seater sofa and a small side table. The resident can end the day with a book or relax on the upholstered sofa. The color scheme in the living room is typical of purism, simple but very elegant. Earth tones and shades of gray in particular form an attractive ensemble.
As functional and stylish as the furniture is selected, the floor covering actually plays the main role in the open living concept. The floorboards impress with their raw, untreated look and charming grain. Some of the floorboards have been replaced with natural stone tiles - these bring variety to the interior. But they are also a practical addition, because the individual elements form a unique map and help the woman to orientate herself in the house. If you follow the stone tiles, it can go directly from the kitchen-living room to the dining area, sofa, bathroom, toilet or bedroom. This minimizes the risk of tripping.
In the bedroom - also sparingly furnished with just one bed and wardrobe - the flooring runs around the bed and up to the window. As already mentioned, the builder completely dispensed with doors. In this way it servesHallway as a connection, and not as a room divider.
The facade design
The house has a generously glazed facade, so that the rooms are well ventilated and bright at all times of the year. The facade is simply painted in black and white. The kitchen-living room has direct access to the outdoor area - it opens to the small garden through large, wide sliding doors.
A concrete wall shields the house and its residents from prying eyes. At the request of the homeowner, the architects decided not to use a garden gate. Instead, a straight garden path covered with natural stone tiles leads directly to the front door. The surface is non-slip and has a width of 1.5 meters - enough so that two people can walk side by side. The front door is equipped with a long door handle for optimal comfort.
A house that scores with both minimalist aesthetics and functionality – this is how the project by So&So Architects can be described. Easy-care surfaces, simple furniture with clear lines, numerous storage space options and innovative floor coverings round off the living range. The facade is also simple but very practical - closed to the neighboring houses, the building opens up to the small garden. The project is definitive proof that you can live comfortably even with limited living space. Provided, of course, that the facility is tailored to your personal needs and preferences.
