Combining garden and living – open floor plan planning

Open architecture is modern and is sophisticated in every sense. It conveys spaciousness and living comfort, and the functional, clear, open floor plan underlines the modern lifestyle. This expands the living area, connecting inside and outside, garden and living. A house in Singapore – KAP House, serves as an excellent example of this floor plan trend. It was designed by Ong&Ong Pte Ltd Architects in 2016.

The house is surrounded by beautiful tropical gardens. Green plants are one of the leitmotifs of the house's striking design. Plants of different kinds can be seen in every room, but also outside. The areas flow smoothly into each other, then outwards. In between there are only design boundaries, the role of which is fulfilled by French doors and glass surfaces. There are only a few definable spaces, but there is still the impression of spaciousness.

The arrangementthe French doors and glass surfacesensure a lot of light, a lot of sun, a lot of freedom. The transitions between the design spaces are fluid. Living, dining and kitchen are linked together and form an open unit that is also open on both sides, but towards the garden. The infinity pool is on one side. A special system beneath the surface of the ground ensures an immediate view directly into the water.

Open floor plans like this not only mean a direct connection between the garden and living, but also a clear view and lots and lots of light. The furnishings are simple and reduced, thereby destroying the spacious effect of the open architecture.
