Reed cladding for external facades – minimalist design with sustainable materials

The entire hotel is located next to Tristinika Beach in Greece, and the facades of the Eco Suites are decorated with reed cladding. The panels are made from local materials grown on the hotel grounds. The reed panels cover the floor-to-ceiling glass windows behind them, creating a softer, more subtle and non-reflective facade that blends in with the natural surroundings. At the same time, the sliding slats provide sun protection and privacy, as guests can transform their balconies into private outdoor spaces.

Practical reed paneling for natural comfort

The exterior facade also features vertical wooden planks that indicate the private entrance to each suite. For this reason, the wooden facade blocks direct sunlight and allows the sea breeze to circulate through the apartments. The rooms of the apartmentsflow into each other and the huge sliding glass doors blur the boundary between inside and outside.

The open floor plan and its orientation interact with the facades and keep the interiors cool during the summer heat. Since the new eco-suites complement an existing hotel, the existing buildings and views had to be taken into account.

Each floor plan of the suite is pivoted and moved for optimal orientation within the buildings. The design incorporated local materials and labor, as well as handcrafted furniture and flooring. Furthermore, structural steel was used for the frame and precast concrete parts for all walls and partitions. The construction time on site was approx. 4 months for 900 square meters.

Traditional construction with modern elements

The Eco Suites were built in 2018 and have already established themselves as a favorite place for many tourists. They are a mix of unique minimalist design, eco-friendliness and hospitality. The apartments offer spacious double and triple rooms, just a few steps from the idyllic Tristinika Beach.

It is a small, family-run design hotel owned by a family of travelers who are very in love with the location and surroundings. There you can enjoy the sun, lie on the beach and, above all, feel at home. In the resort you will also find a self-service restaurant, a tavern, a pool bar and a beach bar.

Exclusively designed interiors

The Eco Suites are not typical hotel rooms and were designed for a unique living experience. For the construction, the architects only used natural and sustainable materials, which can be seen from the reed cladding and the wooden facade.

The built-in solar panels also provide hot water 24 hours a day. Intelligent kinetic architectural elements keep direct sunlight out of the building. The installed ceiling fans ensure maximum natural ventilation of the interior spaces.
