Corten steel doors with a geometric design greet visitors to an art gallery in Taiwan

The entrance door is the business card of every building. That's why more and more architects and designers are relying on impressive door designs instead of resorting to the usual. A good example of this is the main entrance doors of this art gallery in Taiwan. These are two solid Corten steel doors that make a great impression with both their appearance and their geometric shape. We present the project from the design and architecture office BASS Design in this article.

Why Corten steel?

Corten steel is a special type of steel that is exposed to the weather for a few weeks and thus develops a special protective layer (patina). This layer protects the steel from rusting and at the same time creates a visually beautiful effect. Since this steel is completely weatherproof, it is perfect for outdoor use. It is often used in the garden andin facade designused.

In addition to the good material properties, the type of steel impresses with a very special look. The patina looks extremely modern and looks very elegant in combination with neutral colors. For all these reasons, the architects chose Corten steel doors for the entrance to the Yiyun Art Gallery in Taipei.

The entrance to the gallery consists of two Corten steel doors - one wide and one narrow - which close together in an interesting shape. The exterior is characterized by geometric shapes that protrude slightly from the facade when closed. This creates an eye-catching design that invites visitors to the gallery. The triangles that form on the left and right indicate the door handles, which are not actually handles. Rather, these are two cut-out areas in the door surface that function as door handles.

The exterior of the building is designed in a neutral gray, which provides the perfect backdrop for the Corten steel. The resulting contrast transforms the entrance doors into real eye-catchers.

The solid Corten steel doorsrotate when openedand therefore have no threshold. This also ensures a seamless transition from the outside to the inside. If the entrance doors are opened, you can see that they are completely flat on the inside. The striking, geometric design is only visible from the outside.
