A single-family home in Aalter, Belgium was built in 2013 and designed by the architectural firm Dirk Hulpia. There used to be a farmhouse on the site of the house and the homeowners wanted the memory of this to be traceable in the new project. The modern clinker brick facade is where tradition and innovation meet.
The project appears unique and consists of two buildings. The minimalist architecture and thedistinctive clinker brick facadecontrast with the quiet landscape. The clinker bricks suit every architectural style and offer several advantages in terms of insulation and maintenance.
The large format windowslook as if they are coming out of the facade and not built in deeper as usual. This special window installation and the missing roof ledge complement and emphasize even more the offset structures that make up the house. The two are connected by a glazed room where the kitchen and common room are located.
The rooms - kitchen and living room - which are completely glazed on one side, have direct access to the garden and also the garage. This is a significant advantage when receiving guests.
