A young couple went to Architecture and Design SHED because they needed expert help redesigning their apartment. For its part, the architectural team was happy to receive such an unusual project. The Seattle-based company is always looking for new design challenges, and this project was exactly what they're good at.
Industrial style apartment on two floors
The customer request was for this 158 square meterAttic apartmentinto a unique oneIndustrial style apartmentto redesign so that the existing elements are used correctly and fully and some new things are integrated into the interior. They wanted an apartment with an original layout, not something of the usual kind.
Industrial style apartment – The modern kitchen
The couple wanted an exposed entryway and an oversized oneHallwayhave. They didn't insist on having lots of storage space everywhere. However, they wanted the original industrial elements for the industrial-style apartment to be retained and used in the construction.
The kitchen in the apartment has an industrial style with large tiles
For this reason, concrete floors, galvanized ceilings and blackened steel beams now give the apartment a strong industrial touch. Of course, there are also new elements that were added during the transformation into an industrial-style apartment, they only emphasize the unique character of the attic apartment. These are again industrial style elements such as concrete bricks, stainless steel and blackened steel surfaces.
The upper floor of the apartment serves as a lounge
The kitchen in the industrial-style apartment lacks the usual storage space. The entire ambience here is determined by a brick back wall and an elegant kitchen island. Both are in great harmony together. The thin stainless steel worktop fits perfectly with modern kitchen appliances. The kitchen island also serves as a bar and includes an integrated microwave. The kitchen island also provides valuable storage space for smaller kitchen utensils. The geometric pattern on the wallpaper makes the kitchen look a little softer, but not by much. It also goes wonderfully with the overall industrial style decor in the apartment. The metal staircase has a niche underneath that can be used as a storage room for bicycles. There is also a wooden shelf where books and souvenirs can be arranged and displayed.
Industrial style bedroom with walk-in closet
The upper floor in the modern, industrial-style apartment is entirely intended as an area for social, interpersonal contacts. The large window brings a lot of natural light into this part of the apartment and the ceiling there further enhances the industrial look. The stairwell is the defining feature in the hallway, as mentioned, it has an open design. There is no wall separating the hallway from the bedroom and this creates a very relaxed atmosphere, although it does infringe a bit on the residents' privacy. An open walk-in closet further gives the bedroom an intimate feel. Other interesting elements in the industrial style apartment such as the large carpet or the wooden furniture were added to the design to warm up the atmosphere. They make the room feel comfortable and cozy.

Many design solutions in this industrial-style apartment are very interesting. Especially where different materials come together, such as wood and concrete. In the picture you can see this small storage space for shoes, it is a good proof of this. But in many places in the industrial style apartment we see the other combination: metal meets wood, which is also typical of the industrial style.
