Cedar cladding in harmony with the rocky surroundings

In today's fast-paced world, many of us long for a break in a place for peace and relaxation. Some choose a vacation in a 5-star hotel with a SPA and wellness area, while others opt for secluded accommodation in nature. If you belong to the latter type, then the Østfold Hut by Lund+Slaatto Architects will delight you. It is located on the Oslofjord in southern Norway and fits perfectly into the natural landscape. The cedar cladding is in harmony with the surrounding rocks and features the same color palette. Read more about the design and furnishings of the cabin below!

The small hut with its annex is located on the bank and thus opensfantastic views of the fjords. The cedar cladding is designed in such a way that part of the slats serves as sun protection for the interior spaces. The roof is also clad in cedar and looks like a continuation of the rear facade. A small roof is also formed on all sides of the hut. The shape of the house comes from a former house on the same site. In order to ensure the highest possible room height, the roof was constructed using a special construction method.

A small wooden staircase with floating steps leads to the rear entrance. From the small wooden deck you enter directly into the living room. Large folding glass doors eliminate the boundaries between inside and outside, allowing the small terrace to function as oneExtension of the living areaserves. The timber used for the facade and the wooden deck around the house has a golden, light gray tone and is perfectly adapted to the coastal landscape.

Diesurrounding rocksinspired the architects for several levels in the interior of the hut. The room height makes it possible to create a second floor where there are a few sleeping options. The living room is cozy and characterized by Nordic simplicity. The sofa and two stools in orange set accents in the room. Paired with seat cushions in blue, the upholstered furniture gives the room a maritime flair.

The view from the living room is fantastic. You can admire calm waters and small islands as far as the eye can see. The generous glazing allows a large amount of daylight to enter the interior, creating a bright and inviting interior.

A fireplace next to the living area provides quick heating in every season. If you want to relax by the fire, you can sit on a comfortable bench right next to it. This also has some storage space where the firewood is stored. Behind the fireplace there is another level that is set up as a small reading corner with a comfortable armchair.

If you walk past the living room you come to the kitchen. It is minimalist and completely furnished with wood. A large viewing window provides daylight and invites the sun's rays into the interior.

Outside, the cedar wood facade cladding is combined with black steel, which creates interesting contrasts. The architects have designed a small extension to the hut, which houses another private bedroom.
