Victorian style reinterpreted - an architect's house in Australia

Old Victorian house in Malvern, suburb of Melbourne, Australia, built in 2015 byRobson Rak Architectsreconstructed. The original house facade and fragments of the interior were preserved to create a harmonious transition between old and new. Elegant, Victorian style can still be seen at the entrance to the house and the modern design remains a mystery to those outside.

When viewed from the outside, there is nothing unusual about the single-family home, but what lies behind the house facade is surprising. The back garden is designed to be really modern and functional, divided into different areas, and has something to offer everyone.Poolwith a wooden deck and a lawn on the other side invites you to spend relaxing hours outside. Floor-to-ceiling patio doors can be moved and seamlessly connect the kitchen with the terrace, where an outdoor dining area has been set up.

The main design elements can be seen high in the back garden –Clinkerand dark oak wood. The same principles are followed in the interior and tastefully implemented in the modern interior design.

The common areas are completely exterior-oriented. The floor-to-ceiling patio doors and windows enable a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor areas, as well as the free flow of daylight into the rooms.

A fireplace is the focus of the living room and visually separates the kitchen from the living room. It is clad exclusively with clinker bricks, which have the same shape on the other side, in the garden.

The structure of the clinker brick wall is mirrored in the design of the wall opposite, clad in smoked oak. The same wood is used on the floor of the remaining rooms. In the hallway, the stucco elements from the original interior were retained and combined with modern solutions with a minimalist character.
