British Fashion Awards 2024: These are the winners and highlights from London

Fashion is very important in London - the British capital is not only the birthplace of punk and the associated clothing style, but fashion is part of the culture, entertainment and tradition. From talented up-and-coming designers to high fashion legends: The British Fashion Awards, presented by, which took place on December 2nd at the Royal Albert Hall in London, honors big names and talent from the British fashion industry and beyond, with a star-studded guest list. Jonathan Anderson once again won the “Designer of the Year” award for his workand his label JW Anderson. He was already honored with this award last year. “One Day” actress Ambika Mod was by Anderson’s side on the red carpet. She wore a custom-made, sculptural floral-print dress by Loewe - showcasing Anderson's exceptional talent. At the stage ceremony, the newly crowned “Designer of the Year” thanked the BFC for supporting his work.

A historic evening: Alex Consani was the first trans woman to receive the “Model of the Year Award”. She wore a custom-made white corset dress with Union Jack draping - a fusion of the 'Ginger Spice' Brit Award mini dress and the iconic John Galliano jacket once worn by Kate Moss.

In her moving acceptance speech, Consani acknowledged all the women who paved the way for her: “In particular, I would like to thank the black trans women who fought tirelessly to create the space I am allowed to be in today – Connie Fleming, Dominique Jackson, Aaron Rose Philip and countless others. They have allowed me to grow and thrive.”

Versatile artist, entrepreneur, actor and fashion icon ASAP Rocky has been honored with the Cultural Innovator Award at the British Fashion Awards 2024. This honor recognizes individuals who have had a significant impact on fashion and global culture through viral fashion moments over the past year.

ASAP Rocky is following in the footsteps of his wife Rihanna, who had previously received the same award at the British Fashion Awards. On stage, the rapper encouraged young talent to follow their dreams and inspired the audience with his message.

American fashion designer, entrepreneur and filmmakerwas honored with the “Outstanding Achievement Award” for his life’s work. The award honors personalities who have had a lasting impact on and redefined the fashion world through innovation and creativity. Previous winners include Valentino Garavani, Giorgio Armani, Miuccia Prada and Karl Lagerfeld.

In 1990, Tom Ford started as head womenswear designer at Gucci and was named creative director four years later. Under his creative leadership, the brand developed into one of the most successful luxury labels worldwide. In 2005, he founded his own eponymous brand, Tom Ford, which he left last year. In addition to his work as a designer, Ford is an award-winning filmmaker. His film “A Single Man” earned him an Oscar nomination and “Nocturnal Animals” won a Golden Globe.

American actress, author and producer Issa Rae has been honored with the Pandora Leader of Change Award. The award recognizes their innovative contributions to promoting diversity and social justice as well as their commitment to authentic representation in the entertainment industry. Rae is known for the award-winning series “The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl,” the HBO series “Insecure,” and the “Barbie” movie. Her co-star Yvonne Orji presented her with the award with a funny and moving speech. Rae stands for her consistent promotion of diversity and her efforts to make underrepresented voices heard.

The 71-year-old activist concluded her acceptance speech with the emphatic words: “Free Palestina.” The Irish designer Simone Rocha also took up this message when she accepted the “British Womenswear Designer Award”.

A highlight of the evening was the performance of the legendary Blondie frontwoman Debbie Harry, who thrilled the audience with a rousing medley of “Heart Of Glass” and “I Feel Love” by Donna Summer. At the end of the British Fashion Awards 2024, Afropop star Wizkid performed his song “Troubled Mind”, marking the end of an unforgettable evening.
