Button up! Why buttons 2025 are more than functional detail

The function of the buttons is obvious: they hold together, which belongs together, enable simple dressing and moving out and ensure that we have more flexibility in our clothing. In short: the button is a closure mechanism. Practical.

With this basic idea, buttons already replaced the classic lacing in late antiquity, which has so far been connected to clothing - a rather tedious process that demanded both mechanical and time -consuming effort. In the meantime, however, we have the large selection of closure options: the zipper, which reliably holds together, the Velcro fastener, which (although not in the most aesthetic form) enables us to close a second. So why still put on the button?

Buttons go far beyond their purely functional role - both in aesthetic and in practical terms. Because their effect on the overall picture of the garment is crucial. Keyword: the right styling. The best way to do this is by playing with the respective part, changing it, modifying or reinterpreting. And what is better suited for this variety than the button?

An openly worn shirt achieves a completely different effect than a closed. A trench coat that is buttoned up to the top signals a completely different attitude than the loosely falling, open look. Buttons can change the entire effect of an outfit - with just a small handle.

So while in the past they were considered to be simple necessity, they today become an important fashionable stylistic device. Whether as a classic button placket or experimental element: buttons have long been more than functional closures. They transform fashion and set new accents, sometimes in subtle restraint, then again with full self -confidence.

The double button placket is considered a classic under the button formation. Instead of classically parallel and arranged in the middle, buttons are increasingly found in asymmetrical arrangements, are deliberately transferred and thus give the looks a modern, tense twist.

The button is also increasingly used as a creative design element. The almost arbitrary button placements - buttoned or deliberately arranged irregularly are particularly striking, the button in the spring/summer 2025 season is significantly experimental. A prime example of the fact that fashion not only has to be worn, but must be actively styled.

The buttons are also of central importance when emphasizing the silhouette. The French Haute Couture Haus Schiaparelli demonstrates in a masterly way how buttons can be used to accentuate the waist. Similarly, other designers show the conscious use of buttons for the waist.
