Simplicity in all respects, when it comes to the topicHowever, she sometimes bores me. Understated elegance is stylish and usually appropriate, but extravagant looks are currently more contemporary. By the way, this is not just my personal assessment. This year's fall/winter collections are full of extraordinary designs and combinations.
By the way, you can also style an extravagant look if you otherwise prefer things to be simple. It's not just about combining bulky items of clothing and a wide variety of materials. Straight pieces with lush or colorful patterns also embody current maximalism and can be worn wonderfully with more reserved pieces. What more can look like now and why extravagant outfits are almost always worth the courage...
What constitutes extravagance in autumn 2024
When you think of extravagant looks, the unmatched one might come to minda. The New York icon passed away this year, but her outfits will never be forgotten. The new maximalism is not about showing off what you have and throwing on everything you own. It's more about trying out imaginative and refreshing ways to mix and match garments. Which, by the way, isn't that easy, because due to the oversupply of inspiration - especially on social media - you sometimes don't know at first how you could refresh an outfit.

Labels such as Loewe, Victoria Beckham and Area demonstrated in their autumn/winter collections that there are ways to surprise. Loewe showed an ensemble consisting of:and pants. Both pieces don't have an exciting cut, but they do have a bird perched on a branch on the front and a lush leaf print. Victoria Beckham, known for clear designs, interprets extravagance in monochrome and with a neckline area in the shape of half a heart. One of my favorite looks is a creation at Viktor & Rolf – a balloon-like blouse and blazer duo that doubles as a dress. Wow!

More extravagance for your own outfit: 3 tips
Runway looks are incredibly inspiring, but sometimes they don't fit with your everyday life. Or you yourself feel the expansivenessor the meter-high heels for your own look. With these tips you can still give one or another outfit more extravagance:
1. Center piece: focus on one piece of clothing
This means choosing a piece of clothing that is special and combining it with basics. This means the outfit maintains a certain balance and doesn't look too fancy. For example, a colorful, voluminous jacket that is easy to style is nice to start with. A particularly cut skirt with a classic oversize blouse is also a great start to more maximalism in everyday life.
2. Cut or pattern
An extravagantly cut and wildly patterned piece of clothing is absolutely wearable, but may require a little fashion courage. To start with, it can help to decide: either go for an unusual cut orto set.
3. The details first
If all this seems too much, start with extravagant accessories. Because these can also add more to a look when combined with a minimalist piece of clothinghelp. For example, a bright handbag or one with sparkling stones or sculpturally shaped jewelry is great. A scarf, hat or gloves can also give an outfit character and, ideally, a little wink.
What else needs to be mentioned at the end: I think maximalism should always be rewarded. So instead of wondering if someone fell into a pot of paint, you can just enjoy the vibrancy of the outfit. Isn't it fabulous that you can use fashion to express yourself as you like every day?!
I think we should take advantage of this opportunity much more often. Admitting color or pattern may be polarizing, but what is the alternative? That we all dress in the same shades of gray and beige?! Let's do it like Iris Apfel:„You have to try it. You only have one trip, you’ve got to remember that.”
