One might think that after the hustle and bustle of the fashion Weeks in New York, London, Milan and Paris, which has just come to an end, a little rest finally returns to the industry. But wrongly thought: the news overturns. After Versace announced this morning that Donatella Versace withdraws from the chief design post after 27 years, another message follows. The Kering Group announced on Thursday evening with an official statement that Demna Gvasalia was a new oneCreative directors is appointed.
With Demna, Gucci could be a drastically new course
There are speculations about the many new fashion houses that are currently still to be filled. Even after Sabato de Sarnos (for some surprising) departure at Gucci, the rumors were continuously fueled. One of the most common names that were traded included Maria Grazia Chiuri, current creative director of Dior, and Kim Jones, whose next station is still unknown to Fendi. All the more surprising then the news that the Kering Group announced on Thursday evening: Demna Gvasalia changes to Gucci internally from Balenciaga, where he was now as creative director for ten years. The CEO of the Italian fashion house, Stefano Cantino, was quoted: "We agree that Demna is without a doubt one of the best creative directors of his generation." And: "During his tenure, he demonstrated that he can redesign Balenciaga - his identity and of course also his fashionable perspective."
From a purely stylistic point of view, an exciting new cast-after all, the Georgian fashion designer made a name for himself, especially with his unconventional creations and shows, which was characterized by streetwear bonds and dark avant-garde looks. A style that does not correspond to what was recently seen by Gucci under Sabato de Sarno and previously Alessandro Michele. But maybe that's exactly why the group was chosen to initiate the U -turn across the board? In addition, this news is the proof that even the sometimes visible industry (which are subject to critical voices in lack of excitement) still has some moments of surprise.

Demas's last work for Balenciaga will be a couture collection
The designer himself was not long in coming with his statement to change jobs and said: “I am very happy to join the Gucci family. It is an honor to contribute to a house that I deeply respect and admire for a long time. I look forward to writing a new chapter in the great story of Gucci together with Stefano and the entire team. ” But a last collection is still waiting for Demna Gvasalia near Balenciaga. On July 6th, the fashion designer will present his couture collection as a grand finale within the French house, after which the creative directors should continue seamlessly in a new position at Gucci. Anyone who will step into the footsteps of Demna Gvasalia at Balenciaga still remains open - and another factor in the hustle and bustle of the creative director.
At Gucci, he certainly does not expect an easy task, because the Kering Group wants to increase its sales in the long term after a decline and thus secure the future of the company. After the success of Alessandro Michele's time as the artistic director of the label, to whom it was more than to doubled, the fashion house recently had a loss of sales, like some other labels. So it will be all the more exciting what the new chapter for Gucci will look like under Demna Gvasalia. With the innovative spirit of the new creative directorate, however, it is certain: we will hear about it soon.
