What happens in season 1 of “adolescence”?

“Adolescence” tells the story of Jamie, a 13-year-old boy who is accused of murdering his classmate Katie. In the course of four episodes that play in real time, the effects of Jamie's arrest on his environment are shown: How does his arrest Jamie's family out of joint? How was Jamie's everyday school life and what about children today? What about Jamie's psyche and how does he behave towards his psychologist? And finally: How does Jamie's family get along months after his arrest?

The story of “adolescence” is not based on real events, but it was inspired by several acts of violence in Great Britain. “Adolescence” brings very real problems to the screens of the world.

“Adolescence”: Will there be season 2?

Bad news: Despite the success of “Adolescence”, there will be no second season despite the success of “Adolescence”. "Jamie's story is over," said co-creator Jack Thorne in an interview with the BritishITV. "I don't think we can get Jamie somewhere, so I don't think there will be a second season." His colleague Stephen Graham did not have their say in the interview, but it can be assumed that he too is looking at Jamie's story for a selection.

And a second season of “Adolescence” that could revolve around the murder victim Katie? Jack Thorne also sees it as not realizable: "I don't think we are the right people to tell Katie's story," said Thorne. "I am sure that there are other people who could tell great dramas about Katie or girls like Katie and that they should be done." But it will not happen that the history of “Adolescence” is told from the victim's point of view of the same cast and the same crew when it comes to the series creators Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham.

The serial creator also explained: "Our goal was to tell Jamie's story as completely as possible. Perhaps the attempt to tell [Katies] perspective would in some way water down Jamie's story and maybe we would therefore not be suitable for this task."

Director Philip Barantini also agreed: "I personally do not think that there should be a sequel. I think the story is currently complete. But that's my personal opinion," he told the English daily newspaperIndependent.

How could the team go on?

Although it is unlikely that there will be a second season of “adolescence”, there is a little chance that the creator Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham will come together again for another series with a similar format.

"We would like to further expand the one-shot series format, i.e. with consequences without cutting, in a different way," said Thorne. You would like to tell other stories - but a continuation of “adolescence” is currently not the right thing for you, says Jack Thorne.
