Recipe for a hearty spaetzle casserole
Ingredients for approx. 4 portions:
- 500 g of spaetzle (fresh or from the cooling shelf)
- 200 g cooked ham
- 1 onion
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 200 ml Sahne
- 200 ml milk
- 150 g grated cheese (e.g. Emmentaler)
- 2 The Butter
- 2 The Mehl
- 1 TL mustard
- Salt and pepper to taste
- nutmeg
- Fresh parsley (optional)
And this is how it works:
1. First preheat the oven to 180 degrees top/bottom heat.
2. Cook the spaetzle in plenty of salt water according to the package instructions, then drain and set aside.
3. In the meantime, cut the ham into small cubes. Peel and finely chop the onion and garlic. Heat the butter in a large pan and steam the onion and garlic in it until glassy. Add the ham and fry briefly.
4. Put the flour to the onions and ham in the pan and sweat while stirring. Deglaze with the milk and cream and bring to the boil while stirring constantly until the sauce thickens. Stir in the grated cheese until it has melted. Season with mustard, salt, pepper and a pinch of nutmeg.
5. Grease a baking dish slightly. Put the cooked spaetzle in the mold and distribute the ham cheese sauce evenly over it. Mix everything so that the sauce connects well with the spaetzle.
6. Bake the casserole in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes until it is golden brown. Sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley for serving.
Tipp:You can vary the casserole as you wish by adding additional vegetables such as peas, peppers or fungi. Various types of cheese also give the casserole an interesting note.
