There are things that just don't enjoy children. In any case, this includes brushing your teeth. At least that's the case with us at home.

We started very carefully when the first tooth was seen (as it is recommended by dentists). After all, we believed that if they grow up directly, the children would like to brush their teeth later.

Wrongly thought. It was getting worse. At some point you could compare the morning and evening brushing with a fight between a winding snake and a crocodile. The little ones then suddenly develop strength and wind themselves from all possible situations, only in order not to put the toothbrush in their mouths.

Fortunately, there are also good phases in between. What I noticed: When we introduced a new routine, it worked well for a while. We tell you what tips helped us to brush your teeth with a child and how we could minimize the tooth plaster stress. But be careful: we do not guarantee that the tips also work for you. But try it out is worth it.

A notice:Up to the age of around eight years old, parents should always brush their children's teeth well. This is the only way to ensure that all teeth are cleaned thoroughly.

1. Brushing the teeth each other

Toddlers shouldn't brush their teeth alone. It is better if mom or dad do that. But since we know that children still like to hold the scepter in their hands, it sometimes helps when the little ones brush their teeth with their parents. In this way, they learn how they are cleaned and that it is not bad if someone else brushes their teeth.

It can also help if you take a cuddly toy to help and the child can brush their teeth.

2. Toothpacket lining singing

There are numerous tooth plaster songs with which brushing your teeth can be much more fun. Just let the song run, sing along and search for "Hacki Backi" in the mouth of the little ones. It has certainly hid between his teeth again and has to be plastered away urgently. Eventually he broke his teeth with his hammer 😉

3. Use electrical toothbrush

The electric toothbrush was a real game channel at home. After all, mom and dad also have one. And it hums so funny. The whole thing was much more fun.

Caution:There is no official age recommendation from when children should use an electric toothbrush. It is best to talk to your dentist beforehand.

An electric children's toothbrush with colorful LED lights can be found. B. here at Amazon.*

4. Explain in front of the mirror & every step

To make brushing your teeth with your children a little more relaxed, you can use them to replay the individual steps with them directly in front of the mirror. So first take the toothbrush, get it wet, then put the toothpaste on it and lubricate on the brush and then gradually brush your teeth. So the little ones can see what they do and understand the steps.

5. Remove tooth cleaning apps

We live in 2025. Apps should not be missing. Of course, there are also some apps that teach the little ones to brushing their teeth or who are supposed to playfully busy. Most apps motivate your children by having to solve tasks or, for example, have to remove the tooth cleaning monster. Perfect for preschool kids.

6. Have toothbrush & toothpaste selected yourself

If your children have no fun brushing your teeth, you should perhaps include them more. Let her choose your toothbrush and toothpaste. Maybe Chase and Sky from Paw Patrol are currently very popular. Then let you choose a brush with suitable motifs, for example. Or try different toothpastes. Some just don't taste the little one.

7. Avoid stressful situations

If you want your children to brush their teeth a little more relaxed, you should avoid stressful situations. If the child is already tired in the evening and only cries, brushing your teeth brings nothing. It only increases more into thein. Try it a little earlier the next day. Even if things are stressed in the morning, you should perhaps better put on to the daycare center.

Important for all tips: Be a good role model yourself and regularly brush your teeth yourself. In the presence of the kids so that you can see, brushing your teeth is part of normal everyday life.

And if the tips don't help, stay calm. It doesn't help if the little ones forces her to clean. Then they only defend themselves all the more.
