Baking is one of my biggest hobbies. But with bread recipes, I have had a hard time: too complicated, too time-consuming, simply too annoying-especially now that a mom always has to go quickly.

When a friend told me his favorite recipe for homemade whole grain bread, I was skeptical. No hours of walking, hardly any effort? Sounded almost too beautiful to be true. But I gave the recipe a chance - and was surprised!

After just an hour there was a wonderfully fragrant whole grain bread in front of me. It looked like fresh from the baker, and after it was completely cooled down, it also convinced it in terms of taste.

Bake whole grain bread yourself: simple recipe

So that you can enjoy a homemade whole grain bread - and to show it in front of your friends and family - I share the ingenious recipe with you. You will be surprised at how quickly and easily the whole grain bread can be baked!

Ingredients for a wholemeal bread:

  • 500 g whole grain flour
  • 150 g mixed grains
  • 500 ml of lukewarm water
  • 1 cube yeast
  • 1 pinch of sugar
  • 2 TL salt
  • 2 tablespoons of white balsamic vinegar or apple cider vinegar

To sprinkle

  • 1 handful of oatmeal or grains

Besides that

Preparation:

1. Put the whole grain flour in a bowl and mix with the grains and salt. As a grain, you can use everything you like. Sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and flax seeds are suitable.

Info:For my whole grain bread, I used spelled flour and a mixture of 2/3 sunflower seeds, 1/3 flax seeds and a handful of robust oatmeal.

Place 100 ml of lukewarm water in a container, crumble the yeast and add a pinch of sugar. Stir carefully until the yeast has dissolved and let the pre -dough stand for around 5 minutes.

3. 400 ml of lukewarm water to the flour-grain mixture, pour the yeast dough in and add the two tablespoons of vinegar. Now knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it is smooth. In the meantime, lining the bread baking pan with a sheet of baking paper. It is not that bad if there are a few wrinkles.

4. Pour the dough (it should still be quite liquid) into the shape and whip the shape onto the work surface so that the air bubbles escape. Finally, sprinkle the remaining grains and/or oatmeal over the bread.

5. Place the whole grain bread on the middle rail in the cold (!) Oven. Only then set the oven to 200 degrees top/bottom heat and bake the bread for an hour.

6. Lift the bread out of the mold after baking and let cool for about 2 hours on a grille. Then enjoy!

You can use different types of whole grains for the simple and fast whole grain bread recipe. I personally like the robust taste of spelled flour and therefore used spelled grain flour.

But you can just as well use full wheat flour or rye flour for your homemade bread. Flour mixtures, for example 2/3 full grain flour and 1/3 full rye, are also possible. Try it best and test different types of whole grain flour until you have found the perfect mixture mix for you.

Store homemade bread: so it stays fresh for a long time

The first question after I had plastered the first windows of my homemade bread: How does the bread stay fresh for a long time? After all, such a box of box lasts for a while and I wanted it to neither get dry nor losing its crispy crust.

Reading material:

I made myself smart and followed the most common advice on the net: I kept the bread in a bread box. Mine is made of ceramic and has a wooden lid (Here you can look at him on Amazon*). But you can also use a wooden bread box, metal or sound.

Special bread boxes have the advantage that the bread can breathe and that the boxes absorb the moisture and carry it out. So the bread remains crispy on the outside without drying out.

Important:You should never keep your bread in plastic bags, because it not only becomes soft and mushy, but also molds much faster. And keep another mistake when bread: the refrigerator. It dries out much faster here!
