Above all, the method pursues the goal of looking at the effects of decisions short, medium and long-term. Specifically, this means that you should ask yourself the following questions before a decision:

  • What effects does it have in 10 minutes if I choose XY?
  • What effects does it have in 10 months if I choose XY?
  • And what effects does it have in 10 years when I choose XY?

In the next step you should also play through the opposite conclusion:

  • What effects does it have in 10 minutes if I don't choose XY?
  • What effects does it have in 10 months if I don't choose XY?
  • And what effects does it have in 10 years if I don't choose XY?

In my thoughts, you play through all possible consequences of your decision, which is why the method is also happy to be referred to as time travel method. It is important that you remain factual, objective and realistic and do not let emotions guide you.

The method also works best if you formulate the clear question of as possible, for example: "Should I take on the new job, even though my old job is also fun for me?" Going through your own future in order to weigh up consequences is not always very easy - but it is guaranteed to help you make the right decision for you.
