First in the video: Why people with high IQs don't always have advantages
Don't be fooled: These 3 questions are harder than you think. Find out how smart you are in just five minutes.
There are various IQ tests that can be used to find out how intelligent you really are. Most of the time they are very time consuming. But it is also quicker and easier. For example, with the shortest intelligence quiz in the world, which Yale professor Shane Frederick developed in 2005.
The "Cognitive Reflection Test“ consists of just three simple questions and is intended to tell the tester whether he is intelligent - or not. Can you answer them correctly the first time?
“Cognitive Reflection Test”: Answer these 3 questions
Read each question individually and answer them in your head or write down your answers on a piece of paper. Only then look at the answers.
1. A ball and a bat together cost $1.10. The bat costs a dollar more than the ball. How much does the ball cost?
2. Five machines take five minutes for five products. Then how long does it take 100 machines to create 100 products?
3. Water lilies grow in a lake. Every day the number of water lilies doubles. The water lilies take 48 days to cover the entire lake. How long would it take for them to cover half of the lake?

These are the correct answers
Well, the answers actually seem totally obvious, don’t they? Many people think of the following solutions: ten cents, 100 minutes and 24 days. But these answers areincorrect. This is how you get the right results:
1. The bat must cost $1 more than the ball. But if the ball cost ten cents, the price difference between the ball and the bat is only 90 cents! The bat must therefore cost $1.05 and the correct answer must be the price of the ballfive Cent.
2. If five machines take five minutes for five products, that means each individual machine takes 5 minutes for 1 product. Accordingly, 100 machines are also needed for 100 productsfive minutes.
3. If the water lilies in the lake double daily and the entire lake is covered on day 48, the lake must be half covered the day before. The correct answer is therefore47 Roofs.

How meaningful is the test?
The questions were originally developed for a psychological test to find out whether the subjects were more likely toimpulsive or deliberateact. The tricky thing about the questions is that they seem completely simple at first glance.
So if you couldn't answer any or all of the questions correctly, that doesn't necessarily say anything about your intelligence. During the original test, loudbusinessinsider3,428 test subjects took part, of which only 17 percent of participants answered all three questions correctly.

According to the Yale professor, those who can answer the questions correctly act more carefully, while others decide more based on their gut rather than taking a moment to reflect.
The ability to reflect and think deeply about a question is of course also part of intelligence. However, if you want to know exactly how smart you are, you should take a more extensive IQ test.
