A hedge made of cherry laurel, gray privacy fences and stone gardens - this garden design is out. Read here how professionals design their garden now.
A few years ago, the gardens should be one thing above all: practical and as neatly as possible. Gravel gardens without green or flowers, gray privacy fences made of plastic and of course the mandatory cherry laurel hedge - the main thing is little work.
Unfortunately, this is at the expense of biodiversity. In many places, insects and therefore also songbirds have become rare. No wonder that more and more municipalities prohibit gravel gardens - for the sake of nature.
If you believe the "Branch report Garden Living, Gardening and Living Green-Perspectives by 2030", there is an increasing rethinking in terms of garden design. Instead of lifeless front gardens, more and more garden owners are relying on more diversity.
This also confirms surveys, such as those of the garden tool manufacturer Stihl. The result: people are longer and prefer to be in the garden. The most important motifs are to "spend time in nature" (59 %) and "become creative and want to implement projects" (41 %).
The findings of the survey and the industry reports of the garden trade result in three trends that will shape the garden design this year.
Garden trend #1: Self-catering garden
The garden as a self-catering project plays an increasingly important role. This is also confirmed by the sales of garden trade. Essential plants, especially vegetables and aromatic herbs, were among the bestsellers in the range last year.
According to the "Grüner Markt" industry magazine, refined cucumber are in demand, just like seed -right tomatoes and historical vegetables. Sama law means that a new plants can be drawn from the seeds of a plant. This makes these varieties more sustainable and cheaper.

Garden trend #2: natural garden
Alle fans ofmust be strong now: the shrub has had its day in the new garden generation. Because, according to industry experts, the trend is clearly towards natural gardens with insect-friendly plants.
And insect -friendly shrubs determine modern gardens that are created from an ecological point of view. Bye accurately trimmed hedges, lifeless stone gardens and briefly trapped lawn without weeds. Hello wild growth! Nature is most happy about it.

And there is also a change of time when it comes to privacy fence: the double -gray mast fence with dark gray plastic tracks (by the way one of the most common elements in German gardens) is becoming increasingly natural competition from hazelnut fences or willow fences.

Garden trend #3: The smart garden
Just like in the house, keyword smart home, modern technology also makes gardening easier. According to the “Green Market”, 7 % of all garden owners rely on smart gardening solutions. Automatic irrigation and robotic lawnmower are particularly popular.
But this is precisely with caution: according to the information of theNABUMoreal robots can become a fatal danger to hedgehogs. If the robot approaches, the hedgehogs together and comes under the sharp knife tools. Which mostly leads to the death of the animal.
So that there is no danger to the spiky four -legged friends, experts recommend that the robotic lawnmowers only stop working during the day. Since hedgehogs are nocturnal and only grow at dusk, the automatic lawnmowers should not drive during this time.
Extra tip:In order to create a cozy and safe place in the garden, you should deliberately not clean up a corner in your garden. Foliage, branches, tree bark - everything that bothers the optics somewhere else in the garden can be accumulated there for hedgehogs. Nature and animal -friendly!
