Make your own costume: Taco

A quick and easy but brilliant idea for a homemade carnival costume is the taco.

Simply cut out ingredients such as lettuce, mushrooms, corn, pepper pieces and cheese from matching colored foam rubber and stick them onto a brown dress using hot glue or double-sided adhesive tape.

If you enjoy crafting and want to get creative with cardboard, hot glue and fabric, then you should try one of the following costume ideas.

We'll tell you how you can make a hot chocolate costume, a cotton candy costume, a popcorn costume and a pineapple costume yourself.

Make your own costume: hot chocolate

If you're looking for a fun carnival costume that doesn't require a lot of crafting talent, you might like this idea: the 'Hot Chocolate' costume.

You need:

Here's how:
Form the cup from the photo cardboard. To do this, glue the ends of the photo cardboard together with hot glue to create a cylindrical shape.

It's best to hold the box around your hips to find out how wide you want the cup to be. You may need to glue several sheets of cardboard together (leaving the sheets overlapping by several centimeters).

Now cut the cup handle out of the pink photo cardboard. Bend the ends of the handle approx. 2 cm wide and glue the resulting bends onto the cup with hot glue.

Now cut the foam rolls into pieces with the cutter knife. The goal is for the foam to look like marshmallows.

Tipp:If the foam seems too gray or yellowish, you can spray it with white spray paint. To do this, go outside and protect the surface with newspaper.

Now the cocoa is made in the cup. To do this, fold the brown felt lengthwise and glue it in folds along the edge of the cup with hot glue. You want it to look like some cocoa is spilling over the edge of the cup.

So it can look messy. Once that's done, stick the foam pieces onto the brown felt as marshmallows. Glue the last foam marshmallow onto the headband – the fascinator is ready!

Finally, measure the elastic band the length of your upper body (from shoulder to hip) and double this length. Cut another piece the same length. These will be the “suspenders”. Use hot glue to attach the rubber bands to the inside of the cup at the front and back. Complete!

Make your own carnival costume: cotton candy

With this homemade carnival costume you are guaranteed to be the cutest at the carnival party!

Important NOTE:

This can sometimes be very dangerous. When wearing the costume, always make sure that you don't get too close to any source of fire!

Here's how:
Start by spraying the snow cotton pink. It's best to go outside and cover the surface with newspaper beforehand. Spread the cotton wool out flat and spray everything pink. Let the cotton dry thoroughly.

In the meantime, roll a tip out of the white cardboard and staple the end in place. Cut thin strips out of the red cardboard and glue them all around the white lace.

Now cover the front of the dress with craft glue and press a thin layer of the cotton onto it until the dress is covered. Let the glue set and then turn the dress over so that you can also stick cotton wool on the back.

Now form a ball out of the remaining cotton wool and stick it onto the headband. Now just stick the red and white lace into the cotton ball - your homemade cotton candy costume is ready!

Make your own costume: popcorn

The popcorn costume is definitely one of the 2020 carnival trends. You can easily make this cute costume yourself with just a few utensils.

You need:

  • white printer paper (approx. 50 sheets)
  • yellow spray paint (buy here on Amazon*)
  • a hot glue gun
  • a red and white striped dress (buy here on Amazon*)
  • a white T-shirt
  • Newspaper (for display)

Here's how:
Crumple up a sheet of paper into a ball until you have lots of paper balls in front of you. Place the balls on the newspaper and spray them with the yellow paint. Make sure that there are still a few white areas visible - this will make the popcorn look more realistic.

When the paint is completely dry, you can start sticking the balls on your T-shirt. Start at the neckline and glue each ball next to each other with hot glue. Now put on the striped dress and wear the popcorn T-shirt over it.

Tipp:Buy a bag of popcorn and fill it into the typical red and white paper cups. So you can have your refreshment with you at Carnival!

Make a simple costume yourself: pineapple

Are you looking for a simple costume idea that still looks great and attracts attention? Then the pineapple costume is the right choice.

  • Newspaper (for display)

Here's how:
For your homemade carnival costume, first paint the paper roll with green paint and let it dry standing up on a piece of newspaper.

Now cut tips of different lengths from the green cardboard based on the model of pineapple leaves. Start with the longest leaves and glue them to the bottom of the roll.

Then glue on the second longest leaves and continue until you glue on the shortest leaves. Then glue the pineapple hat onto the headband with plenty of hot glue and let everything harden. Now put on something yellow – your homemade pineapple carnival costume is ready!

You need:

Here's how:

Cut a rectangle out of the construction paper and draw “25 C” on it with the black marker so that everyone knows how much your chewing gum costs. Stick the shield on your belt so that it faces forward when you fasten the belt normally.
