Siphon stinks: You can do this

With these home remedies it will get clean again quickly.

This is how you clean your sink quickly and easily: These home remedies are real miracle cures if the siphon stinks.

The siphon is the pipe system under the sink or sink. The curved pipe is the link between the pool and the wall. This means that everything that goes through the basin into the drain also passes through the siphon.

The siphon is actually there to hold back unpleasant odors caused by the wastewater. Therefore it is usually designed as a U-shape. If water flows through the siphon, some water always remains in the pipe section due to the U-shape. This means that the siphon forms a natural odor barrier.

Since the waste water from the sink still passes through the siphon, deposits form over time due to food residue and grease. This can still cause a bad smell to develop at some point.

But that doesn't mean you have to buy a new siphon straight away. You can easily clean the pipe system under the sink with a few simple household remedies.

This is not only child's play, but also sustainable and cost-effective.

Clean the siphon with vinegar and baking soda

Two absolute miracle products that can be used in many ways in the household are baking soda and vinegar. To clean both the drain and the siphon, you can simply add two to three tablespoons of baking soda directly into the drain and then add half a cup of vinegar.

The hissing and bubbling afterwards is a sign that the chemical reaction is working and the home remedies are doing their job. If you no longer hear any noises, you can rinse with about two liters of hot water.

Clean the siphon with cola

Cola can also help to loosen deposits etc. in the siphon. To do this, simply pour one or two cups of cola down the drain and leave it to work overnight. Then rinse with hot water. The acid it contains ensures that the deposits are dissolved.

Remove the siphon for cleaning

The siphon can also be cleaned manually. To do this, unscrew it with a pair of pliers and place a bucket underneath it so that the remaining wastewater does not run into the cupboard.

You can then clean the siphon in another basin or hose it off in the shower. All you need is some dishwashing liquid and a brush to get into the pipe system to clean it.

Alternatively, you can also use a plunger or a pipe cleaning cable. We found a whole set of pipe cleaning utensils at a low price on Amazon.
