With our simple DIY for poinsettias made from bread bags you can quickly and easily make super beautiful Christmas decorations.
It's still a while until Christmas, but you can't start preparing soon enough. At least that's how it is for me. Because I already have the Christmas decorations ready.
In addition to the classics such as small Christmas houses with LED lighting, candles and fir garlands, I am also always looking for new inspiration. I especially like simple DIYs.
In my search for beautiful self-made decorations, I have now found what I am looking for. I found a super simple DIY for beautiful poinsettias made from sandwich bags online.
We'll show you how you can make them quickly and easily.
Simply make your own poinsettias
With our crafting instructions for DIY Christmas stars, we will show you how easy it is to conjure up beautiful decorations from bread bags. You only need a few materials, which fortunately are not expensive. The good thing about it: I, who actually have two left hands when crafting, have also conjured up some beautiful DIY stars. So you should be able to do that too.
Materials required:
- Sandwich bags
- Glue stick
- punch
- Scissors
- Decorative ribbon/cord
- Pencil
Craft instructions:
- Place a sandwich bag in front of you with the opening facing upwards. You should put another 6 to 7 bread bags next to it.
- Now use a glue pen to draw an upside down “T” on the first bread bag. First horizontally along the lower closed side. Then vertically along the middle of the bags
- Now glue a second bag onto the first one so that the opening also faces upwards. Make sure that the sides are as flush as possible.
- Now glue an upside down “T” onto the second bread bag and glue a third bag onto it. Do this with all 7 to 8 bread bags.
- Once all the bags have been glued on top of each other, you can now draw a pattern on them with a pencil. Start with a simple one by drawing a slash from the middle of the pages up to the middle. Do this on both sides so that a triangle or spike is formed.
- Cut out the bags all together using scissors along the pencil line.
- Then take the first and last tips of the stack of bags and fan out the star. Place the tips on top of each other and punch holes in them.
- You can now tie the star together with a piece of string and hang it up.
The fanned out bread bags now look like a star because of the cutting pattern. Simply beautiful and perfect as a Christmas decoration.
More patterns for more variety
If you don't just want a "simple" star, you can be a little more creative with the pattern. If you place the points differently, you can see how completely new poinsettias are created. As if by magic, simple bread bags turn into beautiful stars.
You can either come up with other patterns yourself and just try them out. Or you can be inspired by Kati’s patterns. The blogger shows on her Instagram accountinterior_by_kinaalways simple DIYs.
Here she shows you a few simple sewing patterns that you can copy very quickly:

Decoration tip for even more coziness
If you have already made several stars, it will look particularly nice if you hang them on a window with an LED light curtain (available here on Amazon*) hangs up. The light shines really beautifully through the semi-transparent stars and it looks super Christmassy.
A pine garland on the window frame also underlines the Christmas look and makes the room even cozier.
We hope you have fun crafting and trying things out.
