New text material about Asterix and Obelix with potential for filming
Anne has revealed that her father left a draft of a story about the Roman Gallic warrior unfinished. René Goscinny was working on a new Asterix adventure shortly before his death, according to his daughter. The heiress of the author, who died more than 40 years ago, discovered an unknown version of her father's text while looking through documents. The fragment with the working title “Asterix in the Circus” consists of 20 pages as half an album, as Anne Goscinny told “Spiegel” in an interview. However, she called a possible completion and publication of the story “a wonderful adventure.” The 53-year-old reported that this story should have appeared after “Asterix with the Belgians”. One day she will work with the publisher Hachette Livre to complete it. However, in her opinion, the project is very complicated. Furthermore, many people need to sit down at the table and find Goscinny's voice. According to his daughter, this would be like a Goya painting with a hole in it.
Goscinny died unexpectedly of a heart attack in 1977. The illustrator Albert Uderzo then also took over the texts. The adventures of the little Gaul Asterix and Obelix, his unlikely friend, are now written and drawn by Jean-Yves Ferri and Didier Conrad. The fifth and 39th volumes will be released on October 21st and are called “Asterix and the Griffin”. This is also the last volume that Uderzo accompanied, at least at the beginning. He died in March 2020 at the age of 92.
