Emma Thompson naked and proud at 62: The British actress takes a stand against cosmetic surgery in a new film

Actress Emma Thompson certainly isn't going under the knifeplastic surgeons. The 62-year-old, who stars in the upcoming film “Good Luck to You, Leo Grande,” spoke in an interview about what it feels like to be a movie star over 60. The new film tells the story of a widow. She hires a young man so she can finally explore the sexual intimacy she was missing in marriage.

What Emma Thompson thinks about cosmetic surgery

When asked if she had ever considered cosmetic surgery, Thompson said she was against it. “I just don’t understand why people would do this to themselves,” the actress said frankly. “Honestly, I think it's a form of collective psychosis, cutting something off from yourself to put it somewhere else, to prevent what happens, which is aging, from happening, which is completely natural. I think it’s a really strange thing.” Emma Thompson added that this opinion of hers is not new. However, many of their peers often opt for a facelift.

The two-time Oscar winner said one of the great triumphs of her new film, which had a virtual premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on Sunday, is that it "represents the untreated body." Before taking the role, she prepared for a completely nude scene with her colleague Daryl McCormack and director Sophie Hyde. They talked about their bodies, painted them and discussed the things they like about them. The actress recently announced this in an interview. She added that society's expectations definitely make it difficult to appear naked. “Nothing has changed about the terrible demands placed on women in the real world, but also in acting. The requirement to be thin is the same as always, and in some ways I think it's even worse now."
