The original cast of the iconic Harry Potter film series reunites to celebrate the adventures of two decades ago in the anniversary. The broadcasterHBO will have a specialpremiere on January 1, 2022, just in time for the New Year. The original magic trio Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson will discuss the eight films with American filmmaker Chris Columbus and examine their making in detail.
The cult film Harry Potter is 20 years old
The special will invite fans “on a magical first-person journey through one of the most popular films of all time,” according to HBO Max. The broadcaster announced this exactly 20 years after the US release of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” on November 16, 2001. A 52-second trailer accordingly shows excerpts from several of the world-famous films and promises that “the legendary cast” would return to “where the magic began”. Other stars including Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs, Gary Oldman, Imelda Staunton and Tom Felton are also there. The special also comes ahead of the theatrical debut of “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.” It has been an incredible journey since the film “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” debuted. Watching it evolve into this remarkably interconnected universe has been magical, to say the least. This is what Tom Ascheim, President of Warner Bros. said.
It will certainly be magical when all the cast return to the original Hogwarts film set where it all began 20 years ago. Furthermore, they are preparing to take their fans on a very special and personal journey. However, there will be one "Muggle" missing from the special's line-up and that is the author of the books - JK Rowling. Her statements about the transgender community in recent years have equally alienated Harry Potter fans. Last year, star Radcliffe reacted negatively to Rowling's controversial tweets about gender identity, which some described as "transphobic."
