Freestanding bathtubs are modern and extremely popular. No wonder, because they bring a certain lightness for a relaxed atmosphere in the otherwise strictly furnished bathroom and at the same time create elegance, which a classic, built-in bathroom can hardly achieve. But unfortunately these advantages also come with a disadvantage that should not be underestimated and the cleaning involved.
Regardless of whether the bathtub is on feet or on a large area on the floor, you must always get behind it in order to be able to clean the floor and the outside of the bathtub there regularly. And this fact makes these models rather unsuitable for smaller bathrooms. The ideal compromise? You can install a semi-freestanding bathtub.
The most important thing in brief
- elegance: Combination of elegance and lightness.
- Space saving: Ideal for small bathrooms.
- cleaning: Makes cleaning easier.
- flexibility: Various installation options.
- Design: Adaptable to individual styles.
The benefits of installing a semi-freestanding bathtub
Of course, you get the aesthetic benefits of the normal free-standing tub, but with a few more:
- By blocking off the area behind the tub, you prevent dirt from accumulating there. Instead of mopping the floor, just clean the half-height wall.
- You can use the area behind the freestanding bathtub as a storage space for shampoo, shower gel, etc. or for candles and other decorations.
- You save on tiles. Completely built-in bathtubs are tiled on the outside, while with a freestanding version you have to tile the floor all around. That doesn't apply in this case.
- You need less space because the bathtub doesn't have to be as far away from the wall so you can clean behind it.

These variants are possible
There are two options for a semi-freestanding bathtub. One would be to choose a so-called wall-mounted bathtub. The other is thisclassic free-standing tub, which you can install anywhere.
How does the pre-wall tub work?
This has one straight side that stands against a wall, while all other sides are exposed. The wall on which the straight side of the tub is located can be any side of the room, but also a half-height (shower) wall, which can then also be used as a shelf.
Since this type of bathtub is located directly against a wall, the popular wall fitting can also be used for it. Depending on how much space you have available, you can opt for a 1-person tub or choose a larger model that can accommodate two people at the same time.
How about onefree-standing fireplace?
Semi-install the classic freestanding bathtub
Here you use a normal free-standing bathtub, which you attach to a kind of pedestal anywhere (see also cover photo). The latter can be at the level of the edge of the bathtub, but can also be a little lower. You can also determine the width, i.e. the area that it should take up, yourself. It would be practical, for example, to choose the corner of the bathroom that would otherwise remain unused and thus gain a function through the storage space.
The purpose of the semi-built-in bathtub is to close impractical spaces and gaps. Both elements merge, so to speak. Depending on the space available and your own taste, you can place the tub yourself according to your ideas. For example, it can be installed on one of the shorter sides so that the length extends into the room.
If the space in the room is rather limited, you can build in the long side or even just leave a small part free, as in the title picture, for example.
