Crafting with paper plates in the summer: fun last-minute projects for kids

What could you make with paper plates in the summer? Watermelons, garlands, sea creatures, flower mobiles and suncatchers – these are just a small selection of the many possibilities.

Design watermelons or other fruits

The watermelon in the cover photo is so easy to make that you can actually choose it if you don't have a lot of time (or inclination) to make it. All you need is the respective colors (watercolors were used in the example, but acrylic paints are also suitable) and a marker for the details (in the case of the watermelon these are the seeds).

If you paint the plate and then cut it into eighths, you can also use these melon pieces to make a cool garland with which youdecorate for a summer partycan.

Create a spiral that you decorate with different summer motifs. It doesn't have to be flowers and butterflies like in the example. Also summer fruits, suns, ladybugs orBees are suitable.

  • Paint the plate any color you like.
  • Starting from the edge, cut the plate in a spiral pattern all the way to the middle.
  • Poke a hole in the center, thread twine through it and tie a knot at the bottom.
  • Make any motifs you like and glue them to the spiral.
  • Lift the mobile using the cord. This pulls it apart and reveals the spiral.
  • If you hang it somewhere, it can rotate interestingly in the wind.

How to make flowers out of paper plates:

  • Paint 5 plates any colors you like. Through theUse of watercolorsThese can flow into one another and create interesting effects.
  • Then cut the 5 layers, all different sizes. You can also create different petals.
  • You can then draw patterns on the flowers with a marker.
  • To get the 3D effect, roll the flowers with a pen.
  • Glue the flowers together to create one large bloom.

Design ice cream cones

You can easily make the ice cream in the waffle like this:

  • Cut roughly the bottom half of the plate into a wave shape. This is supposed to imitate the melting ice.
  • Cut a triangle out of the paper for the ice cream cone. This should not be wider than the plate.
  • Paint the cardboard and paper in any color you like (or beige for the waffle).
  • You can then create a checkered pattern on the waffle with the marker once the colors have dried.
  • Glue the paper plate onto the triangle. Decorate the ice cream with rhinestones, sprinkles, pompoms or plush colors.

Make a fish out of a paper plate

The fish is ready in a flash:

  • Paint the paper plate any color you like and let it dry thoroughly.
  • Cut out a triangle anywhere on the plate to create a fish mouth.
  • Glue the cut triangle to the opposite spot to create a fishtail.
  • Take the muffin tins and flatten them.
  • Glue them to the fish body in two rows, making sure they overlap each other.
  • Now attach the eye and you're done!
