Do you notice how nature is slowly but surely waking up from hibernation? The first spring flowers provide colorful splashes of color in the meadows and one or two ladybirds and bees are also spotted. It really makes you want to create something thematic. How about making cute bees with kids?
Waste is generated every day, which is wonderfully suitable for further use and from which great decorations can be made. Toilet paper rolls, egg cartons and plastic bottles, for example, but also bubble wrap and cans. The following collection of craft ideas for bees is perfect as a source of inspiration.
Funny bee made from egg carton on honeycomb made from bubble wrap
This egg cardboard bee on honeycomb is quick to make and really funny. To do this you will need the following materials and about an hour of time.
- Eiercarton
- cardboard
- Acrylic paints in yellow, red and black and optionally in white/light blue for the wings
- Paint brush
- Googly eyes
- Bubble wrap
- Hot glue
- ice styles
How to make bees with children:
- Cut out two of the cups from the egg carton without separating them.
- Paint the outside yellow and let the paint dry.
- Using black acrylic paint, paint the bee's striped pattern, as well as the red mouth and cheeks.
- Place the bee on the cardboard and trace the outline. Then add the wing shapes to the sides.
- Cut out the shape and paint it with white or light blue paint if you wish. You can also add a pattern.
- Once the paint has dried, glue the bee body onto the cardboard wings.
- Add the googly eyes (alternatively, you could trace or paint eyes).
- Glue the popsicle stick to the back. This is used to hold the bee so that the children can play with it.
- Cut a piece of bubble wrap of any size into a hexagonal shape and color it with yellow acrylic paint. Here you can concentrate on the upholstery. The color does not have to be applied completely opaquely.

Children make bees out of a white PET bottle
While you first have to cut the egg cardboard, you can already get the necessary shape for the bee body with a plastic bottle. If each child brings their own bottle, this can also be a great craft project for kindergarten or elementary school. What else do you need?
- 500ml bottle
- yellow tape
- black tape
- black construction paper or pipe cleaner
- black marker
- white or tracing paper
- Glue
All you have to do is trim the individual elements:
- Two strips of yellow tape that fit around the bottle.
- Two black stripes.
- You can also change the color scheme to suit your needs or even use acrylic paints instead.
- Draw a face with the marker.
- Cut out antennae from the black paper (ideal for using leftovers) or use a pipe cleaner for this purpose, which you cut into two parts and bend into shape.
- Glue the feelers to the bottle.
- Cut out wings from the white/transparent paper. These don't have to be perfectly shaped at all. Complete!
That's not all you have to saycan do with plastic bottles.
Little bees make crafts out of the lids
If the lid of the bottle happens to be yellow in color, you can also turn that into a bee. To do this, simply draw two black stripes with a smudge-proof pen, cut a teardrop shape out of paper for the wing and stick it on the lid and finally add a wiggly eye. You can also paint a white lid yellow with acrylic paint and then follow the steps listed.
