Make your own cupcake toppers for a child's birthday party

You can do so many creative things with paper straws! And this oneBirthday candlesare the perfect decoration for a colorful celebration! They're so easy and quick to make that you could even make 100 of them for your grandmother's birthday.

What you need:
Paper straws (the choice of color and pattern is up to you)
Tissue paper (here in yellow)
Glue
Sugar confetti

To help you imagine the size of the birthday candles, simply cut your straws in half. Then cut squares from the tissue paper with a side length of 8 cm. If desired, you can decorate the edges of the paper with glitter to add a little sparkle to your candle!

Take the first square of paper and simply scrunch it up around the middle to form a flame. Then put a dab of glue on the tip and insert it into the straw. This is how the first birthday candle is made!

Balloon Cupcake Piekser

In addition to cakes, cakes and cupcakes are also allowedBalloons at no partymiss. So how about paper balloons as cupcake toppers? This idea is also perfect for a baby shower! Simply adapt the colors of the balloons to the occasion!

Instead of toothpicks, colorful paper clips are used for the plugs. These are easy to bend and shape so that the balloons end up looking really impressive. As if they were carried by the wind!

You need:

Cardboard (e.g. in pink, white and blue)
colorful paper clips
Scissors
Double-sided tape

It is recommended to wash the paper clips in hot water before using them for this project. For extra security, you can also wrap the bottom end of the paper clip with tape. Whatever, remember that this is for decoration purposes only and should be removed from the cupcake before eating.

First you need to straighten your paper clips and use them like wire. Then wrap it slightly around your finger to form a curve. The wire should look like the string of a balloon.

Cut out a small balloon template from a piece of paper and use it as a template to cut out as many colorful balloons as you need. Note that you will need two for each topper.

Apply small pieces of double-stick tape to the inside of one balloon shape and secure the top of the paper clip as shown. Leave about 1 cm from the edge.

Then place the second paper balloon on top of the first and gently press them both together. When doing this, try to press the edges and not directly over the paper clip, otherwise an unsightly crease may result.

Pompon toppers made from tissue paper

These pompom cupcake toppers are not only fun and festive, but they are also super easy to make!

You need:

Tissue paper (in a color of your choice)
Circle punch (5 cm in diameter)
See you
Thread (preferably in a color that matches the tissue paper)
Scissors
Lollipop sticks (10 – 12 cm long) or wooden sticks (cut to size)
Double-sided tape

Fold or layer the tissue paper to create between 8 and 16 layers. Then punch out circles with the craft stamp. You will need about 30 circles per pom-pom topper.

Double thread the needle, knot the end, and pull the needle through the center of a stack of 30 tissue paper circles. Sew the paper circles as tightly as possible and cut off the rest of the thread.

Using scissors, cut the circle into 8 equal parts, leaving 0.5 cm from the center.

Attach the circles to a wooden stick up to 12 cm long using double-sided tape. First, wrap double-sided tape around the end of the stick and then carefully insert it between the layers of paper. Don't glue the stick too close to the center, otherwise it will be difficult to fluff the pompom later. Use your fingers to pull the individual layers apart and unfold the pompom. With this topper you can make your cupcakes more festive in no time!

Make a simple bunting

Add a little sparkle to your cupcakes by using thesesweet cake garlandcraft in small format! All you need is a sheet of glitter paper, toothpicks, a glue stick, tape and string. Aside from the glitter paper, you probably already have all the other things at home. And if you have a daughter ages 4 to 16, chances are you'll have plenty of glitter paper on hand too.

On the back of your glitter paper, draw and cut out four or five rectangles that are 1cm wide and 3cm long.

Place the rectangles white side up and apply some glue.

Place a piece of string across the center and then fold the rectangles in half over the string.

Use scissors to cut the ends of the pennants to create a triangle shape. Cut the string and tie each end to a toothpick. Insert the toothpicks into your cupcake and check if the length is correct. If you have too many flags, you can always cut one out and re-tie the string.

To make the crowns even more beautiful, add a few sugar pearls. Once the sugar decoration cream has dried, carefully remove the decorations from the bottles.

Fondant feathers

Feathers are so irresistibly beautiful and are particularly popular as decoration right now. Other plus points: they're not difficult to make and don't have to be perfect! They also leave a lot of freedom for artistic interpretations. So just give this idea a try.

What you need:

Fondant (white)
Optional: feather cookie cutter
Modeling stick for fondant (veining tool)
Powdered food coloring (gold and coral)
Pure alcohol (70% from the pharmacy) or vodka
Paint brush
baking tray
Bubble wrap or cling film

Roll out the white fondant on a surface lightly covered with powdered sugar. It should be about 3mm thick. Cut out feather shapes using cookie cutters or by hand.

Use the modeling stick to make an indentation in the center of the feather. Do this gently so you don't cut the feather in half. Next, stroke both sides of the feather in an upward motion. In this video you can see exactly how this should be done:

Don't worry if the lines aren't perfect. The feathers will look more realistic if they are irregular.

Place the feathers on a baking sheet covered with bubble wrap or plastic wrap. You can also use something else as a base. The main thing is: the fondant feathers should be left to dry in a natural, curved shape. Cover the surface you are letting the fondant dry on with a layer of powdered sugar to prevent sticking.

Allow the fondant feathers to dry overnight or longer until they are firm. Then remove the bubble wrap and carefully turn the feathers over and let them dry on the baking sheet for another day or two until they are completely dry and not soft at all.

In a small mixing bowl, place half of a 2g can of gold luster dust and add 1/2 teaspoon alcohol. Mix together until there are no lumps. The consistency should be like cream and not watery.

Dip a brush into the luster dust mixture and decorate the feathers while gently holding them in your hand. Then let the feathers dry on a tray. If the golden color thickens, add a little more liquid as needed.

Just before serving, place the feathers on the cupcakes. Do not store the fondant feathers in the refrigerator as they may become a little soft from the moisture.
