There are many beautiful decorations whose patterns imitate that of wood. It doesn't matter what material they are made of. The term “Faux Bois” is also known, which is often used for such effects in the field of design and which you may have already heard. It comes from French and means something like “false wood”.
If you also like decorative objects that contain the pattern of tree bark or wooden boards, you will definitely like the DIY decoration in this article, especially if you also like the color white. For the DIY project you basically need two materials: glass and silicone. If you combine the two, really beautiful things can emerge and they have the quality of bonding you very well, not to say forever.

The interesting thing here is that the silicone in this case is not used to glue different glass parts together, but to create the wooden pattern. And the vases turned out pretty pretty too, don't you think?
The instructions:
Get these four things in advance:
– a cylindrical glass vase
– Household silicone (clear or white)
– Frostspray
– white paint in the form of spray
Before you start, check that the glass is well cleaned and there is no dust on it. Then take the silicone and freely “draw” a wood pattern on it. Use cotton swabs to correct mistakes or clean areas you want to improve. If you don't dare to design the pattern freely, you can also look for pictures of artificial or even real wood and trace them. This will give you some inspiration that can help you with your decoration design. Don't worry so much because the more imperfect you make the pattern, the more it will resemble a real wood pattern. So defects are exactly what you need.
After the silicone, apply the white or any other color you like
If you are wondering why you should use silicone and not a hot glue gun for this decoration idea: First of all, a silicone tube with a tip is easier to use than the gun. But more importantly, it sticks to the glass better. The glue would break easily if it hits something too hard or gets wet, which is not the case with silicone.
Make the silicone pattern all over the vase and then let it dry well for 24 hours. That's the hardest part, the waiting. But it is necessary that you wait until the silicone is completely hardened.
A transparent version
After 24 hours, the DIY decoration is ready to be colored. Place them upside down on a tarp and apply two coats of quick-dry freeze spray. Once dry, apply two to three thin coats of white paint. It is important that the layers are thin to avoid the formation of unsightly drips. Also, allow each layer to dry thoroughly.
Note about sprays: You can also apply the white paint straight away, but you should know that it is better to apply at least one coat of frost spray as a base. Finally, it is specifically designed for glass and therefore ensures longer durability. After the layer of frost spray, you can apply any color over it, whether brown, for example, or white. Instead of the matt white color, you can of course also choose a shiny one or whatever else you like. That doesn't matter at all.
And that's about it. That's all it takes to transform an ordinary clear glass vase into a pretty DIY decoration that imitates wood. All types of flowers go well with the vases, from spring tulips to wild summer flowers, twigs or evergreen branches for the winter.
