Rope pumpkins for fall decorations: This is how you make a pretty pumpkin out of a paper plate

If you're looking to expand your fall decor, this craft project is a really great idea. Rope pumpkins are inexpensive and easy to make and will bring even more fall cheer into your home.

The decorative pumpkins don't stand up on their own, but need something to lean on. This can be, for example, a glass, a candle holder or another stable object. You can also lean them directly against the wall if they are on the mantel or on the console table.

To make a similar pumpkin it will take no more than 30 minutes. Try it yourself!

You need these materials

There are only a few materials needed for this project, which you can find at any craft store. Please note that the size of the pumpkin depends on the size of the paper plate.

  • sturdy paper plate
  • white rope
  • Stock
  • Decorative ribbon
  • green pipe cleaner
  • Moos
  • Jute leaf
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue

Making a pumpkin out of a paper plate and rope: instructions

First, turn the paper plate over with the bottom facing up. Cut off two-thirds of the outer edge. Measure the diameter of the plate and mark the center.

Take the rope and cut off the end. Apply some hot glue and roll the rope on itself to start a spiral. Then add a dab of glue to the back of the spiral and stick it to the center of the plate.

Then apply glue to the plate along the outer edge of the spiral and glue the rope to the paper plate in a spiral pattern. Continue doing this until the entire plate is covered.

Where the rope covers the last part of the plate, place the stick. Place it at the back and wrap the rope around it, securing it with hot glue. Turn the pumpkin over and wrap the rope around the bottom of the stick as well. Cut off the excess rope and tape the end in place.

Cut a leaf out of jute and glue it to the front of the stem. Twist the pipe cleaner to make the vines. Decorate the stem with it and add some moss. Finally, tie a bow and the decorative pumpkin is ready.

You can change this project as you wish and coordinate it with your existing decoration. You can also paint the rope orange first to make a classic pumpkin. Personally, I like the white version better. The white pumpkins look really nice and create a great contrast on dark furniture and leaning against dark walls.
