Depending on how big the child is, you should choose one or the other option. Of course, a child should not be left unsupervised, because when making a snow globe there are a lot of small particles that could be dangerous. Below we present 5 different ideas for DIY snow globes.
Snow globe with liquid
For a ball that should be filled with liquid, you need materials that can be found in every conventional household:
- an empty oneJam jar or jar with screw cap
- waterproof glue or hot glue gun
- Artificial snow or snow powder and glitter
- a small model, a plastic figure or a Christmas decoration (it should fit in the glass)
- Styrofoam or small platform
- distilled water
- a drop of dish soap or baby oil
- possibly gift ribbon to decorate
You should first clean the glass thoroughly, including the lid. The lid should be dry so that the glue sticks well to it. A small platform can be made out of Styrofoam or another waterproof material. It should be slightly smaller than the diameter of the lid and not very high so that it can hardly be seen. The plastic figures that the child has chosen are arranged as desired on the pedestal and glued to it. If you have several smaller figures, you can also use small tools as a base to support one or another figureto better advantagebring to. If desired, you can apply a thin layer of glue to the pedestal with the figures and sprinkle the surface with artificial snow. This makes it look very nice later, as if the figures' feet are stuck in the snow. Now all you have to do is fix the pedestal with the figures on the inside of the lid with glue.
While the glue is drying, fill the jar halfway with distilled water and add a few drops of baby oil or dishwashing liquid to prevent the heavy particles from sinking too quickly. Then you add some snow powder to the glass with a teaspoon, then add some water and now you have to test how much water the figures displace. If necessary, add a little more water. At the end there should be as few air bubbles as possible in the glass. Finally, screw the lid tight and you're done! It is advisable to seal the thread of the homemade snow globe with some hot glue.
Children can make such self-made snow globes with the support of adults at any time of the year and give them as a small souvenir, a thoughtful gift or for an Advent invitation. Any small plastic figures of animals or from popular cartoons can be used for this purpose. You can also use figures for model making. A great idea for adults (men) is to incorporate a small, cool model car from your favorite car brand into the snow globe.
Ideawithoutliquid
If you want to create a playful Christmas decoration yourself with children and are only looking for the decorative effect of the snow globe, you can also make a snow globe without liquid. Here, no liquid is simply poured into the glass. The small plastic figures can be attached either to the lid or to the glass base. Here we present a very imaginative variant in which the flying snowflakes are threaded onto transparent cord and so the snowfall is depicted very artistically.
Snow globe for the Christmas tree
You can make a smaller version by replacing the screw-top jar with a decorative ball made of glass or transparent plastic. This is how you create the beautiful snow world in a ball that can later be hung on the Christmas tree. It is advisable to get the ball from your local craft store first. Accordingly, you choose the figures that should ultimately fit into it.
This homemade Christmas ball looks really nice in the style of a snow globe. For this you need a model Christmas tree, some artificial snow and glitter, which will provide a magical Christmas shimmer. When making this snow globe you have to place the tree very precisely in the middle of the ball. Otherwise the Christmas ball will look a little wrong.
The easiest way to attach the tree is to use tweezers. Then you put some artificial snow and glitter into the transparent ball and close it.
Craft idea from wine glasses
Here we present a wonderful decoration idea - decorating large wine glasses as snow globes. The neck of the wine glass is imaginatively decorated for Christmas with artificial snow and plastic figures and placed with the base upwards on a surface as a Christmas decoration.
First, cut a disc out of sturdy cardboard that is as big as the opening of the wine glass. Use a little glue to attach the plastic figures you have chosen for decoration. Of course, they should be relatively small and fit in.
All that's missing is the snow in the snow globe. Then add a few teaspoons of artificial snow and glitter and use the hot glue gun to carefully close the opening of the glass. It is important that no confusing traces of the nuthatch remain on the glass. Alternatively, you can glue a second lid made of nice paper onto it.
MiniSnow globes
These cute, tiny bottles are probably the smallest variant. You can definitely find these in every craft store. All you have to do is fill it with distilled water, add some artificial snow and glitter and close it. The tiny bell and the small “Let it snow” label ensure a perfect finish. In this way, you can really bring great joy to children and adults alike with little effort and very few resources.
