Make tea lights from pine cones - simple decoration with a big effect
As simple as this decoration seems to be, it really makes a big impression on the table. They are especially in groupsTea light holder very prettyto look at and create the perfect atmosphere for dinner. If you want to make tea lights out of pine cones, you will need a little patience, but hardly any materials. This is how the project is done:
- large pine cones(wide enough to accommodate tea lights)
- small glass for tea lights
- plasticine/modeling clay/self-drying craft clay
- Never
- sandpaper
- Hot glue and gun
- optional: spray paint, acrylic paints, glitter
Before you make the tea lights from pine cones, you can clean the cones with soap and water. Then you have to let them dry well. Cleaning is especially beneficial if you...Cones also painted, paint or otherwise design (e.g. with glitter). Then use pliers to remove the first few scales of the cone at the pointed end. How many rows are necessary basically depends on the size of the tenon. You should ultimately end up with an area large enough to accommodate a tea light.
Now sand the resulting surface smooth with sandpaper to get a flat surface. Now you can also decorate the cone with colors or glitter. You then have to create a base using plasticine, modeling clay or something similar so that the candle holder will stand stable later. To do this, take a small amount and form a ball. Press it lightly onto the round end of the cone and press the cone onto a surface to flatten the mixture a little. Then glue the tea light glass to the top surface with hot glue and you can then set up the tea light holder. Instead of real candles you can also use themUse LED tea lights.
Use pine cone scales
You can see a slightly more complex version in the picture above. If you want to make this type of tea light holder out of pine cones, you will need the scales. Since pine cones are very stable and difficult to remove, we recommend using spruce or larch cones for this craft project. These are thinner and easier to cut off. Then take a tealight lantern and start gluing the scales to the outside.
Hot glue is very suitable for this purpose. Starting at the top of the jar, tape one row, then move on to the next row, overlapping the first a little (like fish scales). Continue like this until you reach the bottom and the entire glass is covered. The result is really pretty to look at and can not only decorate the dining table, but also side tables, dressers or even theDecorate the mantel. You can also make this creative candle holder for tea lights out of pine cones as a gift.
Alternative to making tea lights out of pine cones
Of course, the craft instructions above are not just suitable for pine cones. If you only have smaller cones that don't have room for tea lights, you can just as easily use long, narrow table candles. You can stick these directly onto the prepared cones (as described in the instructions above) or you can use a suitable holder, stick it in place and then just insert the candle into it. Keep in mind that with the table candle, the cone will most likely be dripped full of wax, as the wax is not in a metal container like with the tea light.
Decorate cones
As already mentioned, you can also decorate the cones in any way you like. With spray or acrylic paint you will probably get the quickest design options. With acrylic you can also paint just the tips of the scales instead of the entire cone. Other options are:
- Glitter: If you want to decorate the entire cone, you can use spray adhesive, spray the cone and then quickly sprinkle glitter over it. Give the glue some time to dry, then gently tap the cone on the table to remove excess glitter. You can also just put glue on the tips (e.g. hot glue) and then decorate there with glitter. Or you can just use glitter glue.
- Gold leaf: Gold leaf is a really beautiful material that you shouldn't forget when making decorations, especially in autumn and at Christmas. You need special glue to fix the fine gold. It's best to get advice from a craft store.
- bleaching: If you like purist decorations or just want something different, you canAlso bleach cones. This original look is guaranteed to attract everyone's attention.
