Father's Day is coming in a few days and if you have children, then they will surely want to give their dad a gift or at least a card. Instead of buying these, you can get to work yourself and create handmade gifts with the little ones. Today we'll give you a few ideas and tips on how to make the classic Father's Day shirt card and hide a lovely message inside as a surprise. Let's go!
Greeting cards designed in the shape of a shirt have become a classic for Father's Day. Children make them in kindergarten and elementary school to make their fathers happy on Ascension Day (when Father's Day is celebrated in Germany). These cards usually come with a tie and a lovely message written underneath or on the back.
In this article we offer you two craft ideas for shirt cards for Father's Day with the lettering stuck in the middle as a surprise.
This Father's Day origami card can be made with any sheet of paper, so you can have a finished card in just 5 minutes. You can make it both at home and in elementary school to delight the dads.
What you need:
Patterned photo cardboard (A4)
Solid cardboard in any color
Scissors
Glue
Decoration, optional
Directions:
- Fold the paper in half lengthwise with the patterned side facing out.
- Open it. Fold each side of the paper so that it meets the center fold.
- Turn the paper over and fold the bottom up no more than an inch.
- Turn the paper over again. At the end where you folded the paper, fold the corners in so that they meet in the middle, about 2cm from the top edge. This is how the “collar” of the shirt is created.
- On the opposite side, fold out both sides of the paper so that the white side is visible. Both sides should mirror each other.
- Fold the bottom up and tuck it under the folded collar to complete the origami shirt card.
- Then cut a small piece of sturdy cardboard about 5 x 7 cm in size, or a size that will fit in the card. Unfold the top and stick the paper as a background for a message.
- Write yoursSaying or congratulationson the box or add another surprise if you like!
- Decorate the card with pompom buttons, a tie, bow, stickers, or paper patterns. Make the card unique and personal for the father who receives it as a gift!
Photo of the child as a surprise in the card
In the middle of the shirt card you can hide not only a congratulation, but also a little surprise. This could be, for example, a photo of the child or a small piece of candy. The small children's Duplo bars are a great choice because you can leave the “You…” and stick a message above the “plo”, such as “… until the best!” More about this idea and moreYou can find cool Father's Day gifts made from sweets here.

- Print out the template and cut it out.
- Glue a T-shaped strip of construction paper to the center of the top edge of the card, as shown in the image above.
- Glue the Super Dad stencil into the center flap of the card so that it is just under the blue collar.
- Fold the two ends of the collar down.
- Fold the two open ends of the card inwards and cut a V in the middle for the neckline. Make sure the ends of the collar are on the outside.
- Attach the buttons to the left side of the folded card. Be careful not to glue the whole card together!
- From the same patterned paper, cut out small rectangles and attach them to the sides to make sleeves. The beautiful card for Father's Day is ready!
