No matter whether you spent a lot of time on grandma and grandpa's farm as a child or simply know the atmosphere from films - if this charm is brought into the Advent and Christmas season, a special nostalgic feeling is created. You probably know what we mean. If you also love this style and want to incorporate it into your decor, one of the ways you can do this is by making a cute gnome house. We'll show you a cool guide!
Make a gnome house out of different materials
After the Scandinavian gnomes have conquered almost every home in recent years, their houses are now coming. And to build such a house yourself, you can use a wide variety of materials - from dollhouse building sets to cardboard and clay pots. Depending on how much time you want and can invest, you are spoiled for choice.
Another variant is to just make an elf door, hang it on a wall or lean it and design the area in front of it as the front garden, so to speak. Clotheslines with elves clothes, a small table with chairs, small Christmas trees and deer and much more. We'll show you some inspiration.
Craft instructions for the house with cardboard, plastic bottles and craft clay
- Cardboard box + additional cardboard
- plastic bottle
- self-drying craft clay
- Popsicle sticks for a door
- Hot glue
- Fairy lights
- Toothpicks or kebab skewers
- Artificial moss or other material for the roof
- Acrylic paint for the house facade
Make the house out of a small cardboard box by cutting out a large, square piece on one side for the door. You can easily make these out of popsicle sticks, as we will show you below. Also add one or two windows.
The roof:From another pieceMake cardboarda simple roof. It should be longer than the house so that it can survive. Fold the cardboard at any point for the peak of the roof.
Optionally, you can add a tower using a bottle as in the example. If you want to do this, you will have to cut a hole in the roof that is no larger than the circumference of the plastic bottle. Attach the roof with a cardboard triangle that represents the gable. In the example, a jagged edge was cut because a string of lights illuminates the house and the light is visible.Don't glue them together yet if you want to build the tower too!
Make the tower by cutting off the top third of the bottle and inserting it through the prepared hole from below. Now you can glue the roof onto the house.
Now add theseDetailsadded. You design the windows with the help of the toothpicks while you stick the craft clay onto the tower and also incorporate a few windows. The plastic of the bottle remains visible and takes on the role of window panes, through which the light from the fairy lights will later be visible. You can hang a few icicles from the roof using the hot glue. You can then paint the clay and design the roof with artificial moss or another material.
You can use the lid of the box to make the foundation with a terrace for the gnome house.
Build an elf door out of ice steel
If you don't have a ready-made door like the one in the example, you can easily build one yourself out of popsicle sticks. Below we will show you an example. Your variant doesn't necessarily have to be pointed like a house, but can also be rectangular. The only important thing is that it is not smaller than the opening provided in the box.
Paint the door in the colors you want and glue it to the opening in the house.
Clothes rack for gnomes with clothes made of felt
A drying rack with laundry is quickly created from shish kebab skewers, buttons, string and felt, which you can use as decoration for the elves' house. Cut the skewers to the same length and glue them to the buttons so they can stand well. Now tie string between both sticks. Then cut out tops, pants, socks and Secret Santa hats from the felt. You can cut templates out of paper beforehand. Then glue the laundry in place with hot glue or use mini clothespins.
Make a gnome house – decorate the house
As already mentioned, you can now put up various decorations around the house. To create a snow landscape, you can use cotton wool or white fabric, on which you can then place a few mini conifers. You can also add a ladder made of sticks or a sled, as well as deer, a rocking chair, etc. Or how about spreading out a little artificial snow and creating shoe prints in it?
There are numerous accessories for dollhouses that you can also use when making a gnome house.
