Make a garland out of colorful strips of paper: it's that easy
The so-called ring garland is one of the simplest craft ideas for colorful decorations. The method is even learned in kindergarten and is certainly known to everyone. This super easy idea can be your salvation if you need to conjure up a carnival decoration very quickly. To make the rings you can either use glue or staple gun. Not sure if it will work? Here is a step-by-step guide to help you.
- If you cut out the paper strips yourself, first take a sheet of paper and lay it horizontally. Using a ruler, draw vertical lines 1-2 cm apart.
- Cut the paper into strips and repeat with construction paper in other colors or patterns.
- Glue the two ends of a strip together. Pull the next strip through the ring and glue it together. Continue like this until the garland reaches the desired length.
DIY fan garland made of construction paper
Another popular craft idea for garlands is the fan garland. It looks very festive and can be made as colorful as you like. All you need is construction paper and glue.
Here's how:
- Fold each sheet of paper into an accordion shape. If you would like to make a smaller paper garland, first cut the paper in half.
- Then fold the resulting strips in half and glue them together to form a fan.
- To make a garland out of each compartment, glue the outer edges together so that one fan faces up and the next faces down.
Make carnival garlands with children
This idea is also ideal for children. It is a wonderful opportunityRecycle paper scrapsand turn it into a pretty decoration. You can then hang the simple garland both vertically and horizontally.
For the paper garland you need a string such as wool, colored paper, glue and a circle punch. To make the garland, place a paper circle on the string and glue a second piece to the back, keeping the string in the center. Continue doing this at equal intervals until you have a colorful garland.

Make a two-color garland out of crepe paper
Crepe paper is also a great choice for homemade garlands for carnival and birthday parties. You can quickly and easily make two-tone garlands yourself and decorate any room with them for the fifth season. What you need:
- Crepe paper or crepe tapes
- adhesive
- optional: scissors and ruler
How to make the garland:
- If you are using whole sheets of crepe paper, you should first cut strips out of them. Mark 5 cm wide strips on the rolled paper and cut them. For a garland you need two strips of different colors.
- Unroll the masking tape or strips and place them at right angles to each other, as shown in the picture instructions above. Fix with glue.
- Fold the ribbons over each other alternately.
- After the entire ribbons are folded, connect the ends with glue.
- The crepe paper garland is ready! Simply pull it apart and hang it where you want.
Make your own fringed tissue paper garland
Fringe garlands are not just for Christmas. If you change the colors, they become an atmospheric party decoration for any occasion. A fringed garland is also really easy to make: all you need is tissue paper, scissors and a stapler. Here are instructions on how to do it.
- Place three sheets of tissue paper in any color on top of each other and fold them lengthways in the middle.
- For a bushy garland, fold in half again.
- Fix it in the middle every 5 cm with the stapler.
- Fold the tissue paper lengthwise along the staple line.
- Now come the fringes: Cut the paper about half a centimeter apart. Leave a gap of approx. 1 cm to the fold so that the garland does not tear.
- Unfold the paper and scrunch the fringe to make a ruffled paper garland.
Tipp: You can also use crepe paper for this DIY idea.
