Luminous ghost decoration for Halloween: 3 simple DIY ideas made from different materials

Would you like to put up an original, glowing ghost decoration for Halloween? How about some quick DIY projects?

Next week the time has come: the spookiest night of the year is coming and it's high time to finish the decorations. This year I chose the classic – ghosts! They bring a spooky feel and are the ideal choice for an eerie atmosphere. Furthermore, they don't scare children that much and are therefore perfect for a child-friendly party. Here are three ideas on how you can easily make a great glowing ghost decoration yourself.

Make your own super quick ghost lantern

Who doesn't like upcycling projects? Okay, for this idea you probably won't use the old mop head, but you will definitely use a leftover one that you no longer need. It's also totally fine if you love this idea so much that you buy a cheap mop just for it. Then you can bring out these cute, glowing ghosts every Halloween and decorate the shelves with them.

Necessary materials for the glowing ghost decoration

  • white mop head, not used
  • bauchige Glasvase
  • Hot glue
  • black construction paper
  • black ribbon, thin
  • Scissors
  • Circle
  • LED tea lights or battery-operated fairy lights

Make your own mop ghosts: This is how it works

Before you start: Please note that the length of the microfiber is the same as the size of the vase or slightly longer. Vases that are too high are unsuitable here.

Let's get started: Hold the mop replacement head by the screw thread and turn it over so that the microfiber hangs around your hand. Apply a generous amount of hot glue to the plastic part in the center and place the base of the vase on top. Press firmly briefly so that the glue can stick and turn the vase and mop over.

To hide the plastic part at the top of the mop, you should add a hat. Best fits herea witch hat, but you can also think of something else.

For the witch hat, cut out a quarter circle out of black paper. Make it into a cone and glue the edges together with hot glue. Cut serrations into the bottom of the paper cone and fold them inward. Place the cone on a second sheet of black paper and draw a circle around the cone. Using a compass, draw the outer edge of the hat brim. Then cut out the outer circle and cut out the inner circle, leaving you with a black paper ring (the brim).

Bend the prongs of the paper cone outward and apply glue to them. Pass the hat brim over the paper cone from above and glue it to the points. Glue a piece of thin ribbon around the cone above the brim to finish the hat.

Now apply a good amount of glue to the screw thread of the mop and place the hat on top.

Cut oval eyes out of the black paper and glue them to the front of the mop.

Place the glass vase on an LED candle or insert a string of lights and make your cool ghosts shine!

Luminous ghost family crafting with balloons

Lanterns are a wonderful decoration idea for all autumn and winter celebrations. We've already shown you how to make a pretty oneMake a lantern out of a ballooncan. In the spirit of Halloween, this idea is used to make cute ghost lanterns. You can make them like a family by using balloons of different sizes. The technique used is called papier-mâché and anyone who hasn't tried it won't succeed.

You need these materials

  • Balloons
  • Paper mache paste
  • Paint brush
  • white paper towels
  • Scissors
  • black craft cardboard
  • Glue
  • LED tea lights

Craft instructions for paper mache ghosts for Halloween

First, inflate the balloons and tie them. Use two larger balloons for the mother and father and one smaller one for the child.

Stir the paste and get the paper towels ready. Both toilet paper and kitchen paper or facial tissues are suitable - as long as they are white.

Apply paste to the balloon and stick the paper towels on top. Continue doing this until the three balloons are completely covered. Usually 2-3 coats are necessary. Then let the glue dry at least overnight, but ideally for a day or two.

Meanwhile, cut out eyes and mouths from black paper. You can make a witch hat for your mother like in the instructions above.

While the papier-mâché is completely dry, cut out the knots of the balloons and remove the remains. Cut out a larger circle at the bottom so the lanterns can stand upright.

Glue on the facial features and hat. Place the paper mache lanterns on the LED tea lights and this glowing ghost decoration for Halloween is ready.

Make your own mini Halloween ghosts out of craft clay

The following idea is done very quickly, but some time is needed for the ghosts to dry. The material used is air-drying clay, which usually dries out completely in two to three days. The end result looks super cool though.

This is needed

  • white craft clay
  • round bowl
  • rolling pin
  • Messer
  • Tennis balls and mason jars or matching bottles
  • tape
  • straw
  • LED tea light

This is how you make the clay ghosts

First, roll out the craft clay with a rolling pin and cut out circles using a round bowl.

Attach one tennis ball to each mason jar with tape. Place the rolled out circles on the tennis balls and shape the sides as in the example below.

Cut out holes for eyes and mouth using a straw. Allow the ghosts to dry at least overnight.

When the ghosts are completely dry, place them over LED tea lights and arrange them on a tray. Add a small decorative pumpkin and the simple Halloween decoration is ready.
