Styrofoam balls are available in all sizes. It's worth investing in a set of Styrofoam balls in different sizes. The balls with a diameter of 5 to 8 cm are perfect for the next craft instructions. Create mini pumpkins out of white and orange felt. The material not only impresses with its pleasant feel, but also looks great. You can group the small pumpkins on the coffee table, on the windowsill or on the mantel or display them together with other decorative figures. Here comes the step-by-step instructions:
Necessary materials:
- Felt sheets, orange, green and white
- Styrofoam balls with a diameter of 10 cm
- Scissors
- Sewing thread, orange
- Orange acrylic paint
- Paint brush

Craft instructions:
1. Find the center of the Styrofoam ball and measure 2.5 cm up and down. Mark these dimensions with a dotted line around the Styrofoam ball. Then use a knife to cut off the marked details.
2. Paint the Styrofoam ball orange and let the paint dry.
3. If sharp edges appear when cutting off the two details, you can sand them with sandpaper.
4. Cut out an orange felt sheet in a circle shape with a diameter of 10 cm. Use this to cover the Styrofoam ball.
5. Tie the felt ball around with the sewing thread.
6. Cut out a 3 cm wide and 10 cm long strip from the green felt and roll it up. Glue on top.
Crafting with Styrofoam balls in autumn: cute owls
Made from Styrofoam ballsand felt you can also make numerous animal figures. To make cute owls you need felt sheets in different colors, polystyrene balls with a diameter of 25 cm, googly eyes, a craft knife and glue. Optionally, you can attach the felt details to the Styrofoam balls with pins or use hot glue. Let your imagination run wild and experiment with the colors. For this craft idea you need the following details:
- small triangles made of felt for the feather

Make birds out of felt and Styrofoam balls
You can make cute birds out of felt, colorful feathers, pipe cleaners and round glass beads. You still need two Styrofoam balls: the first for the head and the second for the body. You can also cut out the beak from felt or cardboard. You can arrange the cute bird figures on tree branches and display them in the garden or on the balcony. If you have a decorative birdhouse, you can decorate it with the birds.
Another idea for autumn decorations with bird figures made of felt and Styrofoam balls: Make the feathers and the head out of felt fabric and you can make the legs yourself out of craft wire. These birds can decorate the dining table well into the winter. Depending on which colors you choose, the birds can be combined well with both autumn and winter decorations. You can also display them on the garden table because snow, rain and frost cannot damage the Styrofoam ball and felt.
Make a paper lantern with autumn motifs
Are you organizing a party or have friends and family over for dinner? Then the next craft idea is just for you. You can make autumn lanterns from large Styrofoam balls (diameter 40 cm or more). Simply wrap the balls in gold craft paper, crepe paper or tissue paper. Optionally, you can also cut flowers out of paper. The lantern can be illuminated using an LED string of lights. Make autumn decorations with Styrofoam balls: mushrooms
Use divisible Styrofoam balls with a diameter of 15 cm and Styrofoam cones to conjure up a beautiful autumn decoration with forest motifs. You can paint the mushrooms any way you like or wrap them with tissue or crepe paper. This means you can create stylish decorations with autumnal motifs in no time. Decorate the mushrooms with ladybugs made of salt dough or butterflies made of paper. In addition, you can make hedgehogs out of pine cones and felt and display the whole decoration on a moss carpet and a cake stand made from a tree slice.
Stylish mushrooms in large format also look good in the garden next to the fairy house or the garden gnome. Mushrooms made of Styrofoam and paper are not suitable for outdoor use because water and moisture can damage the crepe paper.
Make your own acorn from Styrofoam balls
You can also make other forest-themed decorations using small Styrofoam balls and crepe paper. These include, for example, acorns, which you can make yourself from small Styrofoam balls with a diameter of 3 cm. You can use this to set accents on the dining table or simply fill the glass vase or bowl. When making acorns, you need a little more skill because you should attach the small details precisely. But the effort is worth it because the end result is very durable and you can use them for several years.
Autumn decoration with boxwood made of paper
A boxwood made of paper that looks incredibly similar to the real thing? For the next craft idea you need a polystyrene ball with a diameter of 40 cm and one with a diameter of 30 cm, a shish kebab skewer, green acrylic paint, crepe paper in light, grass and dark green, and a plant pot. You will also need the following accessories: fineliner, scissors, brush, glue. First, create a template for the boxwood leaves, then cut out enough leaves and attach them to the two Styrofoam balls. Paint the shish kebab skewer green and insert it through the center of the Styrofoam balls.
You can also make a hydrangea out of cardboard and half of a Styrofoam ball. Simply cut out the hydrangea leaves from pink, nude, orange and purple cardboard and glue them onto the Styrofoam ball. You can make the flower petals out of green clay cardboard. Make a vase out of nature-themed cardboard to display the hydrangea. This decoration can be easily combined with modern paper decorations. Together with origami birds she looks good.
Crafting with Styrofoam balls in autumn
Summer is over. But you can still bring a summer flair into your own four walls. Make felt flowers in yellow, purple, violet, pink, blue and red to transition from summer to fall decorations. Glue the felt flowers onto a Styrofoam ball to create a “flower meadow”. The arrangement is ideal for the month of September. Then it's already autumn, but we haven't yet adjusted to the cold and cloudy weather.
If you have some crafting experience and like to experiment, you can make a creative decoration yourself using felt and Styrofoam balls. Just let your imagination run wild and make a 3D pumpkin from felt details. Cut enough circles out of orange felt fabric and fold them together. Then glue them to the Styrofoam ball. Cut out a green leaf from scraps of fabric and insert a tree branch about 5 cm deep into the Styrofoam ball. You can also make the hole for the branch yourself using an apple corer.
Autumn decorations made from natural materials: make a moss ball
Tree bark, cones and a ball of moss form an attractive arrangement. The natural materials can be presented effectively both in tall glasses and under glass hoods. So that you can make the moss balls yourself, all you need is glue and moss. First, divide the moss into several pieces and spread the glue on the Styrofoam ball. Then place the moss on top piece by piece and press it down well with your fingers. Continue until you have completely covered the Styrofoam ball with moss. Optionally, you can drill a hole through the ball with a drill or apple corer, fill it with water and place fresh autumn flowers in the “vase”.
Make pumpkins out of knitting yarn
You can make charming decorative pumpkins from Styrofoam balls, twigs and knitting yarn. Arranged in a rustic bowl made of untreated wood, they give the purist or Scandinavian interior an extra touch. Simply cut a standing surface out of the Styrofoam ball and drill a hole through the middle. Wrap the yarn through the hole as shown in the photo instructions, cut a tree branch and insert it into the hole. The decorative pumpkin is ready!
Another variant is to process the dried wool with a felting needle and wrap it around the Styrofoam ball. You can then shape the other details precisely. This decoration looks very natural and adds a country house charm to the interior. You can display the finished pumpkins in a rattan basket on the coffee or dining table. You can also add chestnuts, autumn leaves, cones or other natural materials of your choice.
You can also make animal figures out of felt. However, this requires a certain amount of experience and skill. Since dry felting involves compacting the wool fibers with a special felting needle, you should be very careful. Otherwise there is a risk that you will sting yourself with it. First, shape the fox's body out of wool. The details such as ears, tail and nose are designed with wool in contrasting colors, two black glass beads serve as eyes. And so the cute animal figure is ready in no time.
