Sunday, November 27th, 2022 is the first Advent. The Christmas countdown begins and we wait with excitement for our favorite festival. But if you don't have an Advent wreath yet, you can still use the remaining two days to put one together from simple materials. There are many great variants that are easy to make and don't cost a lot of money. Be inspired by our ideas and make a last minute Advent wreath using inexpensive materials.
The Advent wreath is one of the most beautiful German traditions in the run-up to Christmas. But it has tonot necessarily a classic tied wreath made of firbe. We have collected a few ideas for original Advent decorations with candles that everyone can imitate to celebrate the Advent season. No expensive materials or a lot of craftsmanship are required - just a little creativity and no more than 1 hour of time.
We love recycling! You too? Then this quick Advent wreath is the perfect craft project for the weekend. It's quick to make and a great way to use up some empty tin cans.
These materials and tools are necessary:
- 4 tin cans
- 4 stick candles
- small pine cones
- white spray paint
- Craft wire in gold (optional)
- Material as filling, e.g. E.g. sugar, rice, peas or a piece of floral foam or Styrofoam
- golden glitter
- Goldstift
- Never
- Glue gun
Instructions for crafting:
- Spray the cones with white paint and sprinkle some glitter powder over them before they dry completely.
- Then spray the cans with the white paint - it dries quickly. Apply a second coat if necessary to cover the cans well.
- Cut a large piece of metal wire and fold it double. Use your fingers to form the number 1 and then repeat this step until you have finished all the numbers from 1 to 4. Then stick the numbers onto the cans using the glue gun. (Alternatively, you can paint the numbers on the cans with the gold pen.)
- Decorate the white tin cans with gold dots or another pattern of your choice.
- Fill the cans with sugar, rice, or other similar material and place a candle in the center of each can.
- Arrange the pine cones around each candle.
- Place the numbered candle holders on the console table or a tray and decorate the space between them with conifer branches and other cones as desired. A string of lights around the tin cans would also look great.
So the quick Advent wreath 2022 is ready!

No tin cans? No problem!
Don't have any cans on hand? Then just look around in your kitchen cupboards or in the basement and you will surely find a suitable alternative. Bowls, cans, cups, glasses, etc. are just as suitable and you will use them to make a truly unique and original Advent wreath.
Make a quick Advent wreath with tea lights
We love Advent arrangements that are a little different than the traditional tied wreath. Take a walk in the forest and collect moss, pine cones and snowberries. Buy some tea lights and 2-3 hyacinths. You already have everything you need to create a quick but originalAdvent wreath in a bowlto design. A cheap solution that is fun and not like everyone else.
To do this, take a bowl or tray and cover it with aluminum foil.Old preserving jarsMost of us already have one at home, but if you don't, you can use other glasses. Place a tea light in each of four equally sized mason jars and arrange them on the tray. Fill the space in between with the hyacinths, some moss, twigs, mini cones and whatever else you have collected in the forest. Make sure that the candles do not get lost among the natural materials. If the candles need a little more height, you can first fill the glasses with sand or rice and only then place the tea lights in them.
Arrange last minute Advent wreath on wooden tray
This idea is both simple and magically beautiful. All you need is an elongated wooden tray, four delicate candles and a few natural materials to conjure up a rustic Advent decoration in just a few minutes.
Place four block candles or pillar candles on a rustic piece of wood, cutting board, or thick tree branch. If you are using a tree branch, drill holes for the candles with a drill and place the candles into the holes. To keep the candles in place, you can attach them with a glue gun, candle wax or some clay. Then use various natural treasures such as pine cones, small sticks, moss, berries, etc. to make a unique last minute Advent wreath.Tipp:For an even more interesting effect, you can use pillar candles with a relief structure and number them as desired.
Use jars filled with nuts instead of candle holders
If you are looking for an alternative to the classic candle holder, you can upcycle some mason jars and use them to make this original last minute Advent wreath.
First, wash the jars and remove any stickers and labels. Take a glass crayon and write the numbers for each Advent on the glasses. Then fill each jar with whole hazelnuts, walnuts, shelled almonds or other natural materials of your choice. If desired, add 1-2 cinnamon sticks and some star anise to make the DIY Advent wreath smell nice. Place a suitable block or stick candle in each glass and your beautiful arrangement is ready for the first Advent.
