Make your own Christmas door wreath: Simple craft ideas for festive door decorations

With the holidays approaching, there's no better way to welcome guests and spread festive cheer than to make and hang your own Christmas door wreath. Unleash your creativity and create a unique door decoration to celebrate the season of joy.

Wreaths are traditionally placed on the front doors or on the table. The popular decoration is a must for every home as it symbolizes eternity. For this reason, wreaths are circular and usually made of evergreen plants. Today we have put together some simple but truly impressive ideas that you can use as inspiration for your masterpiece. Whether you choose a traditional wreath made of greens, pine cones and winter berries or a unique look with colorful ornaments, candy canes and even old photos, it will be the first thing your family and friends see when they come to visit and you should make sure that your door decoration will attract everyone's attention.

Which blank for the door wreath?

Choosing the right base is the first step to making your own door wreath. You can use a metal ring or straw blank or simply make a blank yourself from flexible branches. These are available at the craft shop or you can collect some from the garden. Cedar wood, birch and willow are best suited for this.

Use natural materials

Create a rustic look door wreath by using only natural materials for decoration. Pine branches, eucalyptus, dried orange slices, cinnamon sticks and pine cones - let your imagination run wild and experiment with different elements you found outdoors. Take a metal blank and attach only the bottom part of the branches to keep the tips untidy and make the wreath look fuller. Then decorate it according to your own preferences.

Add color accents with ornaments and balls

Traditional red and gold baubles are a timeless choice. You can also replicate this idea with any popular color - use pink, blue or white to give your door decoration a modern touch.

To make this fluffy wreath with Christmas balls, you will need a Styrofoam half ring, decorative garlands with white tips, balls and a ribbon for hanging.

Simply wrap a few garlands around the ring and connect the end to the first garland. Then attach the ornaments with a hot glue gun and tie a ribbon for hanging.

DIY door decoration with fir greenery and curved branches

After making a frame from bent branches, you can only partially decorate it if you want a minimalist design. Attach a few pine branches to the bottom part of the frame,add pine conesand ornaments and hang the wreath on the front door with a string.

Simply make it out of bells

You can also easily make great door decorations for Christmas using bells. You will need bells, wire, needle-nose pliers and satin or velvet ribbon. You can match the color of the bells and ribbon to your Christmas decorations.

  • Bend one end of the wire with needle-nose pliers.
  • Thread the bells onto the wire, making sure they are close together and facing different directions.
  • Leave 1-2 cm of the wire free and thread the end through the curved part at the other end to create a wreath.
  • Tie the ribbon where the two ends of the wire met and secure it with a loop.

Make your own Christmas door wreath out of corks

The wreath can be a very unusual idea, but a real eye-catcher on the front doorCorks as a craft materialbe. If you don't have enough on hand, don't worry, get some from the craft store. Then all you need is a flat metal ring, hot glue gun, bow and tiny embellishments of your choice (beads, winter berries, etc.)

Attach the corks upright to the base, add a few decorative elements and you're done!

How do you attach a wreath to the front door?

When your homemade wreath is ready, it's time to securely attach it to the door. The easiest option is to use a transparent adhesive hook. Metal door hangers are also suitable for this and can simply be sprayed in the desired color to match the door color. If the wreath is not very heavy, assembly tape is also an option.
