Sure, you can show a family movie, but that's not the most interesting activity for the little ones. Why not get creative with an age-appropriate art project instead? Simple Christmas tree made from felt and candy canes
Materials required:
1 piece of green felt
1 candy cane
Foam star stickers
8-10 pompoms, rhinestones or buttons (any color)
1 printed tree template (available below)

Step-by-step instructions for crafting:
Step 1: Cut out the tree shape
Fold your piece of felt in half. Place the folded tree template on the fold of the felt. Draw the outline on the felt with a pen. Cut the shapeof the Christmas treeleaving the felt folded. Unfold the felt to reveal the shape of the Christmas tree.
Step 2: Add the candy cane
Fold the tree in half again and cut 6 slits along the fold. When you unfold the tree, the slits should be about 3 cm long in total. Refer to the printable template to see where to place the slots. Slide the candy cane through each of the slots so the felt will hold the candy cane in place.
Step 3: Decorate the tree
Tear off half of the protective film from a foam star (leave the protective film on the top half of the star). Then press the star onto the top of your felt Christmas tree. Squeeze a small dab of glue onto the tree. Then press on the pompom, rhinestone or button. Continue gluing the pompoms etc. until your tree is fully decorated.

Make your own snowman on a toilet paper roll:
- Paint the toilet paper roll white.
- Glue the earmuffs onto the roll with pipe cleaners. Glue two medium sized white pompoms to the side.
- Cut out a carrot nose from orange cardstock and glue it on.
- Cut a strip for the scarf, wrap it around the paper roll and glue it in place.
- Glue on two black buttons.
- Draw the mouth and eyes with a black Sharpie.
Make a Santa Claus with toilet roll:
- Paint the paper roll with the color of your choice for the face.
- For the hat, cut out a small circle (approx. 8 cm wide) from red glitter paper. Cut a slit in the circle so you can shape the hat. Then cut off any excess paper when forming the hat.
- Glue the hat to the top of the paper roll.
- Stretch out some cotton balls and glue them to the brim of the hat. Glue the white pompom to the top of the hat.
- Glue on the goggle eyes and the bobble nose.
- Then glue a strip of red glitter paper to the floorthe paper roll.
- Glue cotton balls all around for the beard and two on the side of the nose for a mustache.
- Glue 2 black buttons to the top of the red glitter paper.
Christmas crafts with children under 3 – reindeer made from toilet paper roll:
- From a regular toilet paper roll (or paint it brown), cut out the top center of the front and back.
- For the pieces that are still sticking up, make 4 slits on each side and then pull them apart to make them look like antlers.
- Glue on two googly eyes and a pom-pom nose.
Christmas handprints for toddlers
For these painted Christmas handprints you only need a few materials:

Handprint Santa Claus
- First, apply the face paint to the palm and the red paint to the fingers (excluding the thumb). Press your hand on the white cardboard.
- Using the same paint you used for the face, make 2 thumbprints on the side of the handprint for the ears. Letthis colordry.
- Add circular pieces of cardboard for the eyes or paint them white.
- Paint the mustache, beard, hat brim and tip of the hat with white paint. You can also use cotton balls for these parts.
- Make a pink fingerprint for the nose and cheeks. Draw the mouth with a black marker or Sharpie.
- Draw around the eyes and make two dots in the middle. Optionally, you can trace the entire handprint with a black marker.
Make an elf handprint with paint
- Start with the face paint on the palm and the green paint on the fingers (excluding the thumb). Press your hand on the white cardboard.
- Make 2 thumbprints on the side of the handprint for the ears using the same color you used for the face. Allow this paint to dry.
- Add circular pieces of cardboard for the eyes or paint them white.
- Paint the brim and tip of the hat with white paint. You can also use cotton balls for these parts.
- Make a pink fingerprint for the nose and cheeks. Draw the mouth with a black marker or Sharpie.

Snowman handprint:
- First, apply white paint to the palm and black paint to the fingers (excluding the thumb). Press your hand on the white cardboard.

- Paint the entire hand green and place it on white cardstock. Allow to dry.
- Add red fingerprints to the tree to decorate it.
- Paint a star or glue a glitter star to the top.

Reindeer handprint with paint
- First, apply light brown paint to the palm and dark brown paint to the fingers (excluding the thumb). Press your hand onto the white cardboard, trying to leave space between your fingers so that 2 fingers are closer together on each side.
- Make 2 thumbprints on the side of the handprint for the ears using the same color you used for the face. Allow the paint to dry.
- Add circular pieces of cardboard for the eyes or paint them white.
- Make a pink fingerprint for the cheeks on both sides and paint a red nose.
