The run-up to Christmas is the best time to sit together with the family and make something creative. When my children were younger, we spent every Advent Sunday like this - with papers, scissors, glue and Christmas music. This doesn't always work so well with teenagers, but we have our moments even now. Since toilet paper rolls almost never end up in the trash in my household, I would like to show you some great ideas for Christmas crafts using this material today. They are easy to make and fun for both children and adults.

Let's start with these cute little Christmas trees. You hardly need any additional materials for this. I still recommend that you get some paint and glue to beautify the trees and turn them into an inexpensive decoration. Here's how:

  • For colored Christmas trees, start by painting the cardboard rolls. Allow the paint to dry before continuing.
  • Flatten each toilet paper roll and cut into thin strips.
  • Fold the resulting rings in the middle and stack them on top of each other with the bend facing upwards to create a Christmas tree.
  • Fold one piece in half and glue both ends together. This is the tree trunk.
  • Decorate the Christmas tree with punched out paper circles and you're done.

DIY spiral Christmas trees

For Christmas crafting with toilet paper rolls, I think these spiral Christmas trees are really cool. And the best thing is that anyone can recreate them. If your children are new to using scissors, you can do the cutting and let them do the fun part: decorating. Do the following:

  • If desired, paint the toilet roll green and let it dry before cutting it to size.
  • Use scissors to cut the roll in a spiral shape.
  • Wrap the spiral tightly around a pencil to form the tree, then remove the pencil.
  • Decorate with sequins, rhinestones, mini pom poms and of course a star on top.

You can also use the empty toilet paper rolls to make art on a piece of paper. Cut a roll into thin rings and make a pyramid out of them on the sheet. Have the child color the inside of the circles green and decorate it with colorful spots. Glue a tree top and a tree trunk and the Christmas 3D image of the Christmas tree is ready.

You can make so many different Christmas trees with toilet paper rolls! The rollers can also be used as a small foundation. All you have to do is cut out a triangle out of paper and decorate it and you have a pretty Christmas tree.

You can check out the second super easy idea in the instructions above. You flatten the cardboard roll and draw a tree template with a pen, leaving an edge at the bottom as a base. Then cut out the outline of the tree and paint it however you like. If you also put an LED tea light in the middle, the small DIY Christmas decoration will also light up.

Make your own cute tree pendants out of toilet paper rolls

Did you know that you can make great tree decorations using toilet paper rolls and a staple gun? It's really quick and easy, at least these two ideas I just think are great. To do this you need to do the following:

  • Staple the bottom and top edges of the cardboard tube together in opposite directions, creating a shape that resembles a triangle.
  • Paint the triangle green for a Christmas tree and brown for a reindeer.
  • Decorate the Christmas tree with beads, a star at the top and a piece of brown paper or a small stick as a tree trunk.
  • You make the reindeer with two small sticks for the antlers, which you put inside the roll and fix with a dab of glue if necessary. Then add googly eyes and a red button as a nose and you're done.
  • Finally, add a piece of yarn to hang the ornaments and decorate the Christmas tree with it.

Make Santa Claus out of toilet paper rolls

What would Christmas crafting be without some Santas? Incredible! Toilet paper rolls are a good alternative to cardboard if you want to make something small. Rememberthese ideas that we showed in the fall? Now it's getting Christmassy and the toilet rolls are being transformed into little Santa Clauses. It's that easy:

  • Flatten the toilet roll.
  • Draw a Santa Claus in a hat using the example above.
  • Cut out.
  • Cut out the mustache and pompom for the hat from the leftover cardboard.
  • Paint the Santa Clauses and glue on the details.
  • To make tree pendants from the cardboard figures, punch a hole at the top and tie a hanger.

Make snowmen

Now let's move on to two super easy ideas that toddlers are sure to love. It's of course about the snowman and the reindeer, which you can easily make from whole toilet paper rolls. Everything is in the details.

For a snowman, you need to use a white cardboard tube or paint it white first. Then you have various ideas to choose from. As in the example, you can tie a scarf out of a strip of fabric and make ear warmers out of pipe cleaners and mini pom-poms. Or of course you can come up with another idea. The main thing is that the figure has the features of the snowman.

Craft idea for children: Rudolf with the red nose

The reindeer Rudolf is even easier to design. You can simply use the brown toilet roll as is or also paint it in a rich brown tone. With a brown pipe cleaner the reindeer becomes really cute and fluffy. Add antlers made of paper or sticks, googly eyes and a red nose and that's it. Pretty yet simple.

If you want to make snowflakes with your children at Christmas, you cannot just paper, but also use empty toilet rolls. As in the first project, these are cut into thin strips and then glued together.

For more complicated shapes, the cardboard rings can be folded and inserted into each other. This makes the snow crystals even more realistic and decorative. If you don't just want to make the snowflakes for fun, but also use them as decoration, you can paint them with white spray paint and embellish them with glitter powder. Because what is Christmas without a little extra sparkle?
